I heard Mountain Top (home of the famous banana drink) is no longer open to the public, due to a fire. Does anyone know when it will re-open? We would like to bring family members to see the beautiful overlook views and do a little shopping, too. The drive to get there must be experienced by any one visiting the island for the first time! I personally would love to see it rebuilt and have local vendors fill the new building displaying their locally made ceramics, jewelery, etc.. . . like the old days! Bring back the birds, too:)
Birds? Like "for the birds"

it's coming back.
Thank you, Anita for your reply. We have always taken our friends and family members up there when ever we are giving the grand tour of the island. We will wait patiently until it reopens.
Lip - It's been a while but there used to be (pet) birds up at Mountain Top. I don't recall seeing them there in more recent years. PS: For the Birds has been quite a while too! 🙂
Andaste - if you want to see a bird show check out Paradise Point, they do two shows a day. Here is the website: http://www.paradisepointtramway.com/birds.html.

Is Mountain Top open for business? We were there in 2007 and are returning May 2011. Great place to go from cruise ship dock. How much to taxi there?
Thanks
ejohn
Went up to Paradise Point a couple of days ago when I was on island. While Mountain Top is not open, there are still great views from Paradise and they have drinks, souvenirs and entertainment.
Mountain Top reopened Thursday, 1/20/10 at noon.

Thanks fhe current situation on Mountain Top, Lydia. We plan on going there for a few hours and then back to the port to eat lunch at a cafeteria sytle spot that serves filipino cuisine. It is within walking distance of the dock.
So glad it has reopened! We're bringing "newbies" with us this year and LOVE taking them way up top!
While on Water Island November & December, talking with one of our neighbors who used to share doing the bird show, she mentioned that they're only doing the bird shows a couple of times a week on Paradise Point. I didn't ask any more details and maybe that has changed now since season is in full swing again.

I hope everyone understands Mountain Top and Paradise Point are two completely different places and locations.

The bird show has moved to The Butterfly Farm at Havensight. Longer show and 4 times a day. She's teaching the birds new tricks for next year.
i heard that the butterfly farm had closed. Am I wrong?

It reopened, thanks to Coral World.

I went up to mountain top the other day and it is now open. Instead of the wandering floor plan of the old building there is one very high building and no rooms, just different merchants. The view area is much better but they have not installed the pay binoculars. Inside there are fiber glass figures around in pirate garb. The bar has no were the character of the old bar. Gone are the mermaid bronze figures as well as the old guy on your way to the viewing area.
The merchandise is the same old stuff you can buy down town. And seemed to cost a little more. They still have bannana drinks, at 7 a clip..
The building looks a little more commerical but very sturdy.
Parking is the same as well as the area by the down stairs to the entry.

I don't know why it didn't hit me until today but I have the original barstools from Mountain Top in my place. When the old MT enclosed the bar area they replaced the wonderfully sturdy and iron-based stools with more modern (as in boring!) stools and stashed the old ones away. Thirteen years ago I was looking for stools and general equipment and was given access to the treasure trove of MT cast-offs and had a field day sifting through everything, ending up with the barstools (you CANNOT fall out of these things!), a bunch of iron table bases and other stuff still in use today. It just came to mind when billd commented that the bar had nowhere near the character of the old one. Cheers!
To sum it all up:
Mountain Top has reopened.
Paradise Point is now open until 10 pm daily and now has some kind of carnival show and live entertainment some nights.
The Butterfly Farm in Havensight has re-opened and the bird show is now there.
