Hello,
I have been trying to find information on the guided mountain bike trip on Water Island. We wiil be staying at the Wyndham in October and my fiance would really like this ( hopefully) since he's an avid mountain biker here in MI. If anyone has done the trip before or has information on iot could you please let me know.
Thanks
I've seen reviews for the trip on CruiseCritic dot com. If you do a search for mountain bike water island, those reviews should come up.
You can contact Water Island Adventures at 340-714-2186 or [email protected] or http://www.waterislandadventures.com
I've not done the bike trip before but have a vacation home on Water Island and have seen the tour many many times and have also talked with bikers once they got down to Honeymoon Beach.....which is the last stop before heading back to their hotel, villa, or cruise ship. Tour operators bring you over to Water Island on a pontoon boat where you then board their large passenger vehicle for transit up to Ft. Segarro. The bikes are up at the Fort and once there, the tour guides provide an introduction, "do's and don't's", and also give you a little time to explore the Fort and look at the 360 view of Water Island and surrounding islands. Then, you head downhill and follow the leader to various spots on Water Island. They have a safety truck following you as well as other guides/employees on bicycles. The road down from the Fort is somewhat a steep grade and a little bumpy/holey but that road is only a fraction of the tour. If you're a novice (and there are many novices that take this tour), just take it slow, there are several people keeping an eye on you and helping you (and shouting out things to watch out for). Your fiance should be more than fine....you didn't mention your skill level. When you get to the road that takes you down to Honeymoon Beach, the tour guides stop the group and ask if there are any riders who would like to continue on for a more advanced portion of the trip. Those who opt out of the more advanced portion get to go down to Honeymoon Beach, swim around, and relax. There are restroom facilities at Honeymoon Beach. The tour operator also sells T-shirts under the Pavillion at Honeymoon Beach. You know......as I haven't actually done the tour myself....., I don't know how long the whole thing takes. I do know that, if there are enough people, they will do two tours per day (morning and afternoon). So, I'm thinking the "active" bicyclying part of the trip is about an hour? Maybe an hour and a half? Maybe someone else that has actually experienced the tour can comment on the time factor.
I just checked the web site that was posted for the WI Adventure / bike tour......looks like their domain name expired in mid-June. It's kinda slow this time of year and it's likely they haven't noticed yet that their web site isn't accessible. Call the phone # or send email. Or, just keep checking for their web site to come back up. It's a very popular tour. Everyone I've spoken to that's taken the tour expressed that they were happy that they did it and generally, everyone said they were glad to get a chance to explore Water Island....an island most folks had not heard of or been to before.
