We are heading to st john in Feb for our wedding.....are the mosquitoes any less of an annoyance during that time? We are planning a sunset wedding on Trunk Bay.
Also, has anyone stayed in the villa Island Sun, Chatuea Margot or the Bordeaux Mountain House? We are trying to help find accomodations for our guests. Thanks in advance!

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding. You have picked a great spot and great time of year to be married on St John. The mosquito problem is much less troublesome in the winter than in the summer or fall months on the island. Mosquito's usually become a problem after heavy rain and January and February are among the driest months in the USVI.

Island Sun is a wonderful house with absolutely magnificent views of sky, blue water and majestic blue mountains that dot the north shore of St John. You have a partial view of Cinnamon Bay beach, and you will look out over Tortola and Jost Van Dyke. I think that the views over the north shore of St John are the most majestic in the Caribbean. I am partial to this house as we were married on St John and had our wedding reception at Island Sun back in the day when they did allow receptions. The house and grounds are really large and the patios and deck space are wonderful. There is a beautiful breeze up there and, especially at that time of year, it will allow you to open the great room on all sides without fear of mosquito's. The bedrooms are beautiful and the bedroom above the master, with its sky deck is even nicer than the master, in my opinion. The driving to this villa and its convenience to Cruz Bay makes it far more accessible then the others you mentioned. It is about 12 minutes from the ferry dock. Also, the pool gets full sun all day which would make it warmer in the winter, and it is sheltered from the breezes. The jacuzzi at Island Sun is huge and in a great spot.

We just inquired about Chateau Marigot for an upcoming trip in November, as it looks really upscale. It is pretty far out of the way from Cruz Bay and the beaches at Trunk, Cinnamon and Hawksnest. Also, the pool there is pretty deep, I think about 10 to 12 ft and we were told that the water in it gets pretty cold even in November so I think it would be freezing in March. I dont think that house has a jacuzzi so it is something to consider for your guests. Its a pretty long drive if you are going to spend any evening hours partying in town.

Bordeaux Mtn House looks like it has really great views too- off in a different direction. The location is also a bit of a haul to Cruz Bay, especially for evening trips. I dont know if you are aware that it is for sale. Usually if the villa is sold, the new owner will agree to honor all rentals for maybe 6 to 9 months so if you are reserving it now you might have to consider alternative rental if the place sells soon. I am sure the villa rental company will discuss this with you. We have never rented on Bordeaux Mtn but my step daughter rented in that area at Christmas time, and, again, the pool was unusable because it was cool and breezy and the house they rented had decks that were pretty shady. Cant recall if this house has a jacuzzi but that is another thing to consider. If you are paying for a pool you should have one in a sunny protected spot if you are renting in the winter.
If you have any other questions about island Sun you can e-mail me. Hope this info helps in your choice. All 3 houses are really beautiful.
