Is there anyplace around st.johns where one could moor long term? Are there any docks anywhere with electric, etc.?
American Yacht Harbor on St. Thomas is the closest dock with electricity to St. John. There are no long-term moorings available on either island.
My mother-in-law has a long-term mooring just off Water Island, with a bunch of other boats. I also see many boats in Coral Bay, STJ, that are on moorings...and they look very long-term to me. I think that you have to go thru the DPNR to get one, but I could be wrong. Good luck to ya!
I have a boat on a long term mooring in Coral Bay. We went through DPNR to obtain the mooring. Every year we renew it with them. There are no docks with electricity in Coral Bay yet!
There are four places to moor boats in St. John and no marinas at all. Although there are plans in the works for Coral Bay but who knows when that will take place. Regarding the four places, they are: Coral Bay, Cruz Bay, Great Cruz Bay and Chocolate Hole. The first three are pretty full and tough to find a spot. Chocolate Hole is real rolly and not comfortable if you are going to live aboard. You do need a permit from the DPNR which can prove "fun" to get.
If you have more specific questions, please feel free to ask. I have been living aboard in St. John for four years now and loving it.
