XM Radio was advertising the STX Jazz and Blues festival today, and it made me wistful. I want to come back so badly.

I can't tell you how much the VI got into my blood in just one week. I had a list of the Top 10 Places I Wanted To Visit Before I Die. The VI was nowhere to be seen on that list (Alaska, Pacific Northwest, Yellowstone, Grand Canyon, Ireland, Austraila, Japan, Brazil, someplace in Africa, India). But after just a one week visit, the VI is now in the Top 2 of vacation choices (Alaska is still #1).

If you're planning your first trip, prepare to be changed. Seriously....

Ed,

your new love is more amazing when you consider the wx you had to endure.

My wife and I were lucky to spend our first two years (late 70s) of marriage in PR, with lots of trips to the USVI and BVI. We returened often for vacation and special occassions.

Then on one trip we found a job for our son in STT - so we got to go very often! Mom would say "I want to see my boy", and off we went.

Well the boy is no longer in the Caribbean - he joined the USCG and now lives in Kodiak Alaska. That was our summer island trip this year 😎

All I can say is WOW - Bring your camera - Big time!

Yes they are all fish

Having said that we are booking this week for a 10 day visit to STJ - there is no place like home.

In 2 years, we have been to STT 5 times, that's about once every 6 mos. We have been to Bermuda, the Bahamas, Acapulco, Grand Cayman, Jamaica, the Keys and all over Florida. We fell in love the first time we went to the VI's and it is really hard to get it out of your blood.

Heading back next sunday and I hope it holds the same magic as it always has. It's really hard to leave once you get there. It always calls you back.

What is it about these islands?

He is correct. First trip 20+ years ago. 3 trips in the past few years. I think of St. John daily.

I look at this board at least weekly.

Ahhhhh..

The addiction that is the VI. I live this site in the hope Islander can one day develop a scratch and sniff page (no jokes please Promo) or pipes in the sounds of the islands not just the music. My attraction is the serenity and peace I find amongst the landscape and people. To step out of the "race" on the mainland and force oneself to scale down is priceless and must certainly do wonders for my overall health.

Connie,

I know exactly how you feel! This will be my 30th trip to St. Thomas since 1981 and would not dream of not being able to return every year. I believe the only year I missed was during the 95 hurricane and could not travel because the airport was closed. My group went to the Bahamas instead. While relaxing, it definately was not STT! This year, it will only be my friend and I instead of the usual "group". Over the years, we have had as many as 125 people in our group. Fling vacations used to have a charter flight from Baltimore and a friend of mine worked for a travel agency at the time and chartered a trip. We will be there from 10/30 - 11/9 and if you would like to meet up for a drink one night to celebrate our love for the Islands, we would like that!

Doris, there is a party over on Honeymoon Beach on STJ on the 4th at 10:00 A.M. Lost of people from another message board. We'll be there. Also, I hear Wednesday night at Paradise Point is the best. We are determined to be up there for the sunset. We've tried twice and both time we ran into trouble and couldn't make it there.

We're staying at Sapphire, so we'll be around Red Hook alot.

What are your plans?

Looking forward to seeing Honeymoon. We'll head over to STJ by car barge early and drive around a little bit before the gathering.

Just hoping for good weather!

Boy is that an understatement (but still well said!) Me and hubby first visited in Sept. 2006 for our honeymoon and we are officially addicted. There is no going back to the way life was before the USVI's got into our system. Last year we visited for over a week in November and next week we are returning yet again. We cant get enough! I visit this board almost daily & keep in touch with the owners of our favorite villa on stt.

Our lives have also taken a new direction since our visit. We now have plans (in action) to buy a sailboat and cruise the Caribbean. Our weekends are spent looking at sailboats & learning everything we can before we make the big jump. We might have ended up at South Padre Island if we hadn't visited the USVI's. Now if the darn kids would hurry up and grow up...we would be on our way. haha Just kidding..they are growing up fast enough. So now the plan is to buy a sailboat, live-aboard, sell our home, retire and sail off into the sunset. Our target date is Spring 2010

I don't want to wear flip flops...I want to be barefoot! 🙂

Connie,
We can definately be at Paradise Point on Wednesday, 11/5. We can probably make it around 6 or so. We are staying at Holiday Inn, which is where we ususally stay. I would love to be able to meet up with the people from the VIOL board. I am also going to try to make the Beach Bar gathering. I like happy hour at the Greenhouse too. The only access I have at the moment is from work, so I will not get be able to be online. Maybe I will check my sister's computer from home tomorrow. It would be nice to meet up with some other people who love the Islands as much as I do!

Not to put a dampener on Paradise Point but the last time a forum gathering was scheduled there on a Wednesday night a year or so ago it was wildly noisy with cranked-up amps and not in the least bit conducive to any sort of talking. It took forever for everyone to find each other, the place was crowded and the service people had - to put it mildly - a very difficult time keeping up with orders. Of course others have had different experiences there but it's never been on my list of "must dos" where visitors are concerned. Cheers!

STT...the only reason I'm determined to get there on Wed night is to maybe see Marty. We also tried twice. Once the cruise ship traffic was sooooo bad that we couldn't even get close to Paradise by sunset. The other reason is it was raining so hard and for so long, and then we couldn't find the driveway to drive up, that we just gave up.

I'm determined.
