Hi.... We are arriving Dec 4th and leaving Dec 11th. I plan to do alot of Beach and Water Metal detecting while I'm there and perhaps a little land hunting if I can find a spot.
I would love a partner to hunt with for fun and saftey.
I have an Extra Detector if needed.... Contact me at [email protected] if interested in joining me. Lets Find some GOLD.

And what kind of Pirates Gold are you expecting to 'detect'?????? And on land?????
Contact Sean at the Pirate's Chest. He is an avid treasure hunter underwater. (340) 774-5279
Too bad we won't be there while you are there. I would have definitely liked to go with you.
On another note, I was watching on the weather channel of treasure hunters with metal detectors who waited out in their trucks the last hurricane to hit florida. As soon as the storm passed they were out on the beach. Apparently the waves and storm surge erode the sand off the beach leaving exposed items long buried beneath. A lucky few found gold coins as well as jewelry.
Is there any place to rent underwater metal detectors on ST? Sounds Fun!

Hello Paul,
Often the beach combers with detectors I have seen on St. Thomas are looking for lost jewerly; watches that got taken off when going swimming, rings that may have slipped off with the application of suntan oil...
I have heard a few stories about pirates gold and treasure being uncovered on land on St. Thomas.

A good friend of mine who owned Billy Bones on Norman Island before her family sold the island after many generations of ownership spent a great deal of time researching the history of the island. She remains convinced that somewhere on the island is buried treasure, but no where near the caves as legend has it.
In any case, I suspect one would have more luck metal detecting on a beach where the average metal sleuth would not go. Great Harbour on Jost Van Dyke comes to mind. I imagine over the years that much metal has been lost by the thousands of Olde Year revellers.
Hey Guys,
How about a report when you get back. Would love to hear about your metal dectecting experiences while on island. Sounds interesting.
Thanks, Ray
Metal detectors are not allowed on VI beaches.

Can you please supply a link with VI law concerning metal detectors on VI beaches?
Why was a thread from 2004 brought up?
Because the poster is trying to sell metal detectors via links in the posts.

As far as I know there is no VI Law prohibiting the use of metal detectors. However, the National Park Service prohibits their use:

while the Magens Bay Authority prohibits it at that beach on St Thomas.

That post must have been taken down before I saw it and you posted.

As STT Resident stated, that was my same understanding.
