I know on St. John you are not able to metal detect on the beach, but my husband has an under water metal detector. Does anyone know if they have protection over the ocean as well? (the more shallow area that is near where the water breaks onto the beach all the way out to waist deep) Thanks!

Sorry....the National Park includes the ocean so no detecting allowed there either.

What about Tortola? Does anyone know if it is allowed there?

I would suggest calling The Pirate's Chest tonight at 340-774-5279 around 8 O'clock AST (one hour ahead of EST) to talk to Sean Loughman, the owner. He's an avid treasure hunter, uses his underwater detector all the time, and I believe he knows all the areas where it is allowed and not. Tell him that Marty suggested that you ask him.
