My wife and I want to go to Magen's Bay (MB). We will be in STT for 1 day while on a cruise. The ship offers an excursion to MB. We would like to go, but know nothing about MB. Are Taxi cabs available there? Do they have a place to change and shower? It might be better to just take a cab rather then the ship excursion. What do you think? Thanks.
I visited St. Thomas two years ago on a cruise and hit MB while there. Can't recall the cab fare (there were four or more of us riding together), but it there are many, many cabs at the dock and there will be plenty of cabs at MB for you when you are ready to leave.
It is a beautiful bay.
Hello Tony,
At the top of this page, right above the books you will see each island, click on St. Thomas and from the drop down menu choose beaches. There are pictures & descriptions of the beaches including Magens Bay.
There are plenty of taxis at the cruise dock to take you to Magens Bay on your own and likewise plenty of taxis at the taxi stand at Magens Bay for when you are ready to head back to the ship, take a tour... whatever.
There are showers, restroom, changing stalls at Magens.
A taxi will cost you about $6 a person in a group of 2+ people, one way and takes about 15 min.
Doing it on your own you can stay as long or as little as you like. Gives you a little freedom.

Just a note.....it is $3 a person to get into Magen's.
If it were me, I would not take the ship tour...too much of a cattle call. Visiting Megans is a very easy thing to do yourself.
Taxis are plentiful, not a problem. Then you can come and go on your time schedule rather than the tour's.
In addition to showers (salt water not fresh BTW), rest rooms, changing areas, Megans also offers beach chair rentals, etc. There is also a full service bar, food service, and a small gift shop.
