Hello, I had originally planned on visiting St. John (my first time) for the month of June. I thought this might be the low season and less crowded and cheaper. I was told today that June is the month for weddings and I should come in May. What would be the best month of the two as far as costs and less crowds? What is the weather like in both months?

They're should both be off season as far as rates go. I can't imagine that there are enough weddings going on to crowd you on St John. The weather should be good either month.
My wife and I are heading there in May but only because its our anniversary month. If this is your first trip there, you'll love it. This will be our 6th time back.

May, June.... both will be about the same actually. Either one would be fine. See which one you get a better deal on. Prices should be about the same though. Come to think about it.... Early May, like the first couple of days is the round up of St. Thomas Carnival - there are quite a few people that travel here for that. And in middle of June til July 4th is St. John's Carnival so hotel prices should be higher then since there is a festival going on, also for sure the island will be busier during the Carnival events on St. John in late June-early July. Staying on St. John in May would be fine.

Thank you both. I am beginning to think now that it was just the hotel that was booked for June with weddings and they were trying to get me to just come in May because they had vacancies then. Do they have fireworks on 4th of July? I might extend my stay to include the Carnival at that time. I think it would be fun. Kurt, I am happy to see you have been to St. John so many times. I have been researching the Islands and the Virgin Islands, especially St. John, seem to be what I am looking for. They are beautiful.

Diana, If you scroll to the top of this page, or any page of this web site, there is a top navigation, click on General Guide - and select Carnival. There is an article there, with information on parades, fireworks.... Usually yes there are fireworks on 4th of July off of St. John's Cruz Bay area. The parade on St. John is on July 4th. Calypso shows, food fair take place in the days preceding.

If you are interested in staying in St. John and coming over to St. Thomas for its Carnival - then the events calendar for St. Thomas' Carnival is avialable go to the Events Calendar option in the General Guide and select April 03 and May 03 for the dates. St. John schedule is not yet out. But the parade is always on the 4th.

You'll want to go back to St. John again and again. It's something called Island Fever. It's not in any medical textbooks, but it is a proven sickness. The only cure is to go frequently to your favorite Island (St.. John of course!) and be limin' for as long as possible. This might help the Fever for awhile but you might have to go back yearly to get that sickness under control.

How about both? In approximately 8 days I will hopefully be drinking the evening away on St. John. The fever is strong in me now, and I can almost feel the sun soaking into my skin. I need the cure. Barring snow, sleet, war and terrorists, I will soon be enjoying beautiful St. John. I can't wait! I will have at least one drink each for all the poor snowbirds that have to stay behind.
