My husband and I are coming to St. Thomas in July with our 2 children. We are staying @ the marriott frenchman's reef resort. I was wondering if anyone has stayed here before. What is the resort like? Are the facilities and restaurants nice? What kind of service should we expect? Also, since we've never been to St. Thomas before, what should we do while we're there? (We will be there for a week.) Please let me know any info. Thanks.

What are the ages of your children? Frenchmans Reef has a number of nice restaurants as well as one of the prettiest beaches (Morningstar). As far as St. Thomas "must do" activities, take a trip to Mountain Top for a great view of Magens Bay.The kids would probably love Coral World and a ride on the Atlantis Submarine.A nice day trip to St. John is also a "must do". There are a number of beautiful beaches on St. Thomas as well as great dining experiences.
Don't let the negative postings on crime bother you. St. Thomas is generally a safe place except for parts that common sense indicates one should not be in at night. Good Luck and have a great time!

I think that both you and your kids will find the history of the Virgin Islands, particularly that of St. Thomas quite interesting. The main reason that the islands were bought by the United States was for the excellent harbors of St. Thomas and their great look our spots. This was a straegic military buy for the U.S. Given that, you will definitely want to visit Drakes Seat one of the most famous lookout points on the island. It overlooks Magens bay, one of the top 10 beaches in the world. Other points of interest are the Legislature Building and Fort Christian. They still have canons from WWI. Do visit the Governor's house and take an easy walk up "Ninetynine Steps".

On St. John, of course you will want to swim. But do take a tour. Much of the anti-slavery rebellions took place there. If you will be in the V.I. on the 4th of July, then St. John is the place to be. You can enjoy a summer carnival that is very mixed with local islanders and Americans who live there, live bands playing island music, and fireworks in the evening. You can even take pictures, both you and your kids with the parade participants.

I hope you have a great trip that you can write home about. Frenchman's Reef is an excellent choice. You may not want to leave.
