Hi. I was wondering if anyone has seen or is scheduled to stay at the new Marriott Villas by Frenchman's Reef??
My husband and I will be staying there the end of February and were interested in hearing any feedback that may be of interest to us.

Thanks in advance!
Gail

Odds are that you will be staying elsewhere (most likely the Wyndham) as that's what the Marriott is doing with all of the people that are supposed to be staying there now. Marriott had planned on having the place ready and occupiable (is that a word? haha!) by Dec. 15th, but they are nowhere even close to finishing it. I worked (until today, as a matter of fact) for the painting contractor that has that contract, and, from what I gather by the other employees that are actually there painting things, it probably won't be open for occupancy until April 1st....if they are lucky, as I hear it. But you're gonna LOVE STT!!! And the Wyndham is a nice place, too.

UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! That really annoys me! I spoke to the Marriott people twice and they assured me it would be good-to-go by February. Larry, if you could let me know anything else about this please get back to me.
The Wyndham just looks so-so.

Gail,
I am assuming you purchased the Jost Van Dyke building and its exterior is almost complete with interior work going on.
No owner is going to the Wyndham. Those who were suppose to occupy Jost Van Dyke for Xmas and January have been offered up cash, points, St. Kitts, Aruba etc.. and some stayed at the Marriott Frenchmans Reef.

They have brought in two large cranes to speed up construction and the second building is actually close to being on schedule which is pretty good based on the delays all major construction sites on Island face. Yacht Haven was supposed to open last Spring and is still going through a very soft opening on their first phase.

I have talked to construction guys who think it is late because they dont realize it is 9 buildings opened up in phases going through 2011. I will be heading down there today for a look so if you have any questions you can email me.

Dear ECPirate,
Thank you so much for the encouraging news on the Marriott Villas! I totally understand what you were referring to when you said that the property is being built in"phases". We recently stayed at the Newport CA villas and they were also being designed that way.
I must ask you tho, are you affiliated with the Mariott Corp.? You seem pretty knowledgeable in the business. Whatever the case, please keep me informed on the progress!!! I can't thank you enough for your info.

Regards,
Gail

Gail
Just got back & ate lunch at Marriott on our way to the airport. There is NO building ready to be occupied by February. Sorry. Ask them for your options NOW & get that settled. I would head to STJ if possible. STT was way too crowded.

Hmmmmmmm not good news for me about the villas. I will call Marriott on Tuesday and do some further investigating. Some people say yes, some people so no... but you are right, I need to get this straightened out soon. Especially since we already have our plane tix to STT. Thanks for your input.
I will keep everyone up to date on this.

Gail, I just returned from a six day trip in STT and stayed at the Marriott (hotel). Even if (and it's a big, huge IF) one of the buildings is finished, it will not be pleasant staying there. Between the construction noise and lack of amenities, it won't be enjoyable.

Sorry to rain on your parade. And God bless you for putting up with the Marriott sales pitch!

If I have any pictures that include Frenchman's Cove, I'll post them.

Thank you for your reply to my last posting.( RICHARD-Dec.31) You had mentioned that you may have some pics that you could forward me in regards to the progress of the Marriott Villas. Anything you send would be appreciated. 🙂
I have spoken to the people at Marriott and I am hoping they will make good on our reservation. No one was available today to answer my questions tho. 🙁
Hope to hear from you or someone else soon.
Thanks everyone for your help!

Fondly,
Gail

No luck on pictures. At least not on my camera. I'll ask my daughter if she got any.

As far as the accomodations at the hotel, I think they are fine. Some people aren't too impressed with the Marriott because the rooms need some TLC. Personally, I like the convenience of the location and how pretty the grounds are. Sure, our room smelled a little musty, but it's the tropics!!!! There's a reason I always bring a vanilla travel candle along!

Hello all... it's official. I talked with Marriott Vacation Club and they PROMISED that the Frenchman's Cove Villas will be open and offering all of the amenities that was promised when I bought the Time Share.
I am nervous about it all, but I was given no other choices. I'm sure I'll have fun! It's better than being in cold and rainy PA.
Wish me luck!
Gail

Hi:

I'm very new to the message board and love reading all of the wonderful things to do. We are going to be visiting in early April and will be, hopefully, staying at the new Marriott Villas. When you you back from your trip, Gail, can you write an update for us. They promised my friend as well that everything should be ready.

Have fun!
Kelly

I've got the opportunity to go in mid to late March, but if it looks like we'll be dealing with only a 1/3 of a resort we might look elsewhere. Anybody been to Aruba? I know that is an option for the time shares.

Also if any of you end up going to the Marriott Villas could you let me/us know more.

Good luck Gail!

Marty -- please give me your suggestions for a two-night stay on St. Thomas prior to going to St. John. I have never stayed on St. Thomas, but our villa was not available the day that we arrive so we have decided to "ad lib" and figure out something different for the first 2 days.

I am not Marty but I will make a recommendation. We usually stay at the Mafolie when we come in a day or two early. www.mafolie.com

I went to Aruba about 6 years ago. I have no real desire to return. Casino's and crowded beaches. Thats pretty much it. The island is nice but there is no comparison to St.John. The Marriot in Aruba was I feel the nicest motel to stay in however. We went to a conference and it was great for that. Otherwise it dosn't even come close to the VI

Hi, I just heard from Jessica in the sales office on STT that the grand opening is on Feb 16. Initial occupancy date of Feb 15. Hopefully you will be all set! 🙂 She also emailed tons of photos- let me know if you would like to see and I'll forward them. We're heading down to STJ in March, but will check out the villas one of the days. Have fun!

Hi Kimwa-
I WOULD DEFINITELY WANT TO SEE SOME PICS OF THE VILLAS!! I have seen some here and there, but any that you have would be great. The more the better.
We are set to go Feb. 22, and have been a little nervous about it. Thanks in advance for anything you can send.

Gail
