I've read alot about where people shop on either STT or STJ. We loved the Marina Market in Red Hook last time we were down. But we also stayed on STT and took the car ferry over to STJ for the day. Are there markets like this one on STJ...more near Coral Bay? I've heard of some delis or markets that just opened up on Coral Bay. Reviews, anyone?
Thanks!

I can't compare STT to STJ, but I love all of the markets I've been to on STJ. Starfish is very clean, well-stocked, but on the small side. I think the other one is called Dolphin, right?...they seem to have a lot of items, as well. Then, on the other side of the island in Coral Bay is the little market in the same shopping center as Aqua Bistro. I love that little market a lot...very tiny, but they have a few fresh veggies, eggs, milk, and a lot more on the shelves. You'll be surprised what they can pack in there. If you need some spices, why mess with the market...just pop into St John Spice. Oh, and also back to Coral Bay...the market near the gas station has a decent supply of goods, as well.

Having been back now for 3 weeks the ,arket at Aqua Bistro is Lilly's, o.k. it's clean and fairly mordern. Produce is not so good, when we were there they had the same bad head of lettuce in the cooler for 5 days. I know this because we stopped there every moring before heading out, it got to be a joke everytime because that was the first thing we checked. The market by gas station in Coral Bay is Love City Market. Pretty scarry from the outside I would not shop there. Starfish Market in Cruz bay is I feel about the best for produce. We shopped a little at Dolphin Market but I think Starfish is about the most modern. Buy your booze at the airport in St. Thomas when you land, a lot cheaper than at the grocery stores on St. John. I'm still in shock about the cost of food-but not complaining to much.

Love City near Coral Bay is fine. If you judge by the exterior of places in the USVI, you're going to miss out on a lot of great places.

Yeah, Love City does have a lot of people loitering outside and it looks a bit run down...sort of reminiscent of the 7-11 around the corner from where I live...but they really do carry a lot of goods and their staff is always nice. We've never had a problem there.

Thanks all for your input. We shopped up in Tutu on STT and same thing, loitering. Not a problem with us, as it doesn't make much difference. Being originally from DTW, loitering is what people do best! It must mean there's something good inside! 🙂

We sometimes stock up in Cruz Bay when we first arrive. Sometimes we don't. Sometimes I really don't want to begin my vacation by grocery shopping. Either way, once over in Coral Bay, we usually shop at Love City and can find most of what we want. Lily's is fine, but we think of it as the new place and Love City feels like home. I think I remember also hearing of another little place that opened maybe across from Island Blues.

We're always able to find what we need in Coral Bay.

Thanks Lex. And I believe you've stayed where we're staying. Oh, by the way...they've upgraded the charcoal grill to a gas one and equipped it with a lighter. Did you find spices already left by previous renters there?

When we are on island we stop at the Starfish Market in Cruz Bay for our bulk grocery shopping, bread, meats, produce, crackers, cheese, wine, booze etc., but once we get over to Coral Bay for the remainder of our trip we always hit Love City and Lily's and we've never had a bad experience. Love City looks shady from the outside but don't judged a book by it's cover, they are great people, really friendly, limited stuff but great for last minute and got to haves. Lily's is always great for produce, fantastic gourmet meats and cheeses, sometimes their liquor, wine section lacks things we want but we always find a replacement. Just my opinion.
