I vacationed this summer on St Thomas, staying with friends at the East end and checked the slip fees at Red Hook. I was blown away at the prices compared to the States. Are all the marinas on St Thomas the same? I was looking for a slip for a 30 foot sailboat.

Also are there any yacht brokers on St Thomas?

Thanks

John: All the marinas are not the same, but I think they are all pretty expensive. There seems to be a shortage of good, safe slips (think hurricane safe), so the market seems to be on the marina's side. Crown Bay is probably even more expensive than AYH (the Red Hook marina), but you might check Independant Boat Yard and Compass Point as possibly less expensive. Sapphire seems to attract expensive fishing boats, so I'll bet that is expensive, too. A lot of live aboards pay a mooring fee and don't use a slip. Yes, there are yacht brokers- St Thomas Yacht Sales at www.stthomasyachts.vi, for one.

What is the average cost per foot per month for a 30' sailboat in the USVI?

Thanks East Ender. In hurricane season I'd have her lifted ashore, or head south or back to the states anyway. I did meet a guy at Latitude18 who had a mooring. He said it cost him $500.00 to actually buy it from the St Thomas government and own it, but I don't know the details, and another man told me about laying at anchor off St James and commuting to the yacht club. *lol* Quite a bit different from back here.

Gary: I've forgotten exactly how much, but it was more in a week than I pay in a month in California. If you aren't going to stay aboard, the yacht clubs are the best deal.
