I've been meaning to mention this CD I purchased for a while now. It is absolutely awesome! Its called A Soca Spectrum, (MVG Productions) and it has the "Wuk it Slow" that Alex Randall sometimes plays on his podcast. Other songs I absolutely love are "Make Up Your Mind", "Ah Gon Hook You" and "My Three Children". Oh, and "VI Carnival Will Never Die" actually all the songs are great. Order one, you'll love it. Got mine thru CDBaby.com for $14.99 I think. Maybe it was cheaper than that I can't remember.

I'm making up my own CD of songs from this one, some Buffet, some (hate to bring him up) Chesney, and one of my all-time favorites "Cool Change" by Little River Band. My own "island CD" to assist my daydreaming!

There was a thread a while back about favorite songs to listen to while thinking about the VI's, want to start it up again?

ok. Since the topic of music has just appeared, I have a couple of questions....

I'm in search of a CD that has mixture of lively and mellow or laid back songs that are fun / islandy. A good sit out on the porch, have cocktails and watch the sunset CD. Not ALL "steel band-ish" and not ALL "Bob Marley-ish" (though I really ENJOY those but its not what I have in mind for this particular search).

Also, last time I was in STT I was fortunate enough to experience a wildly fun band that was fantastic fiddle playing. It was named something like the Fiddler & ladies.....or something like that. Lead Male's name I think was Dan. And, he had 2 ladies in the group. We saw one of the ladies the following morning heading out of Crown Bay in the sleekest cat I've seen. It was a GREAT time and unfortunately.....I failed to buy one of their CDs! Anyone know what band this is and where I may purchase one of their CDs (hopefully online)?

For those who are interested and may find themselves in the USVI at just the right time, I highly recommend catching a set or two - really fun time. Schedule for his Winter 2007 in the Caribbean below.

[Copied from http://www.sunmountainfiddler.com/3.0-schedule-frameset.html ] as follows:
[SMB will be playing Thursday-Friday-Saturday at Latitude 18 Marina Bar& Restaurant on Vessup Point, in Red Hook, St Thomas, US Virgin Islands, on the east end of the island. Show times about 8 pm. We’ll be there January-February-March, except for St Patrick’s Day week, when we will sail down to St Croix to play.

Would you rather go to a lousy bar at the end of a great road, or a great bar at the end of a lousy road??

We will also be playing some “moonlight” gigs here and there throughout the season, such as Betsy’s Bar in Frenchtown, St Thomas; Skinnylegs Bar in Coral Bay, St John; Ivan’s Stress-free Beach Bar on Jost Van Dyke, BVI; and Heidi’s Honeymoon Pleasure Dome on Water Island. Check in with this website for updates and details –and maybe some more word art! ]

rojako - I think you would like this Malvern Gumbs CD. Its sort of a mixture - not all steel band or Marley. There is a website for MVG productions where you can sample parts of each song before you buy.

I would like to find out if this group performs anywhere on STT while we are there in April. I' m sure Alex Randal would know, or could find out anyway, I should e-mail him!

Oh my gosh MG, I can't believe someone else loves Cool Change by Little River Band... I saw them in concert back in the days gone by... I immediately started singing it when I read your post!!!

cruzb- my sister who, is absolutely in LOVE with (dare I say his name?) that country star who sometimes lives on STJ, would like him to record a remake of that song. She thinks he would be absolutely awesome with his own version, but I like LRB's.
