Just came back from STJohn.
And had to post this to all who plan to visit Maho Bay Camp
Had an encounter with a worker (fulltime) who worked in the Maint Dept , his name was Joe.
He kept following me and wanting me to go out with him, I was alone so I was a little concerned.
He saw me in town and did the same thing on more than one occasion, cannot tell you how many times
he ask me to go out with him. I saw him mant times drinking alot and talking very loud and always trying to get women to give him attention.
As a employee of the camp I would expect more from him .I did tell some friends , who know him and they
told me that he is like that , but that's really not the right way to be and Iam sure that the founder of the camp would like to hear this . After many attemps on me ,he finally got mad and said some choice words. He really made my trip not as nice as it could have been.
Over all Maho is a natures paradise and its nice to meet new friends there , but when its not returned then one should stop when a guest says no. To top it all off I was told that he is married and has had many girlfriends , some who were visitors at the camp. Do any supervisors see all of this? or is ok because he 's a west indian and because he has worked at Maho a long time. ??????

FYI- This first message was posted so that Mr.Joe can stop his behavior and realize his ways. At his age I would think that he could behave.

I'm sorry - do you really think "Mr Joe" is reading this board??? Did you report him, and how many times did you report him to the supervisors at Maho?? and not just tell your friends. I'm sorry that this happened - but hopefully you did the right thing (I don't mean by posting this, although it is good to inform others of possible events that may arise) but that you reported him to the supervisors so the appropriate action can be taken, and you did this the first time you were approached.

Seems like you might know this person. ?
Yes I did try and report this , but I was trying to not start any trouble . There is a system in place that I was not able to penatrate . Like the good ol boy kinda thing .
The west indians who are employed there are grand fathered in from way back , they basically cant be fired. unless there arrested etc. and even then it may not happen.
Hope that this was not upsetting to you.

Sorry it happened to you, no one should have to deal with this kind of behaviour on vacation or at any other place/time in their life. I do not know this person - actually I don't know anyone who works at Maho - but I do believe that it should have been reported to the supervisors regardless what the outcome was or was not.

Sorry for your luck! But I have nothing bad to say against Maho or any of it's employees!!! In fact I highly recommend to ALL!! Where are you from? And why were you staying in a "treehouse" ALONE?? As a woman I would not put myself in that kind of harms way, no matter where I go!!!!

First of all I was not really alone>I had friends with me .
Second of all even if I was alone, that does not give him or anyone else the right to impose his stupid ways on me or anyone else.
Maho is a very safe and beautiful place , I know it well , very well and there is nothing to fear about being there.
Crime is every where , even in Paradise . It seems that you really dont understand my position.
Every time I walked up the hill, he was in my face . when i walked into the store he was asking me when we can date etc.
If you are thinking that race is a issue well thats also not correct. Iam white and he is black , but I was married to a black man and I like all races.and dont discriminate.

My concern is your comment about "not wanting to start trouble"- good lord girl, this guy was trouble not you!!
We women are so conditioned to not start trouble but this does sound serious. We had a slightly negative experience about 5 years ago at Maho with very, very noisy campers at 2AM, largely children from a private school and when we complained, we were told that we "obviously didn't like children", meanwhile our two children were back at our tent cabin. So yes, Maho, like every other place, has its jerks and we did not pursue this as the group left that day but it sounds to me like you should have raised bloody hell.

I will just say that I took care of it in a different manner. but he is still the same , never gonna change.
So many people think he is a nice guy , he's nice cause he's got a BUD weiser in his hand .
Like I said I have friends there. Thanks
