My wife and I are going to stay at the Maho Bay campground next November. Just wondering if certain camp sites are more desireable than others for either convenience , better views, or any other reason. I would be curious to see if anyone had any experience at the campground to share.

I have been to Maho a number of times. Gre place, a one of a kind experience. The farther down the hill you stay .....the closer you are to the water. Of course....then you have to lug all of your luggage back up. I think I counted 356 steps to the beach. It really sounds worse than it is.It is like being a lid all over again. Sleeping outdoors in tree huts. Peacocks walk around freely and they are gorgeous. Check the bin down by the reservation desk to see if anyone left behind something you might need before provisioning too much. Often campers that leave are unable to take certain things home and will oftenleave it behind for others. It's the whole concept of using our resources wisely. They may also leave itmes like books to read, water toys, bug spray. You never know and it's always fun to check. Great place. I think everyone should go there at least once in they're lifetime. I am happy I went. Another is Cinnamin Bay, and stay in a cottage on the beach. Have FUN!

We've gone twice and are returning in four weeks. First time was in 1988 without kids and was wonderful. Last year with two kids it was even better. Our first tent was closer to the water in the A section and last year we had a larger size tent (called VIP) but was close to the Pavillion and a little noisey. You can't reserve specific tents but you can ask for an area - they can send you a map of the layout. If you like nature and don't need the amenities of a villa, I think it is the perfect place to be. Last year our kids (ages 16 and 12) walked out of tent after the first night to a rainbow over the Caribbean and stated that we were definitely coming back - and they hadn't even been in the water yet! And so, we are !
Enjoy Maho, as it won't be around in a few years as the lease expires. There's no other place quite like it.

Also run by them is a place called Concodia Ec-tents. Great views, ecologically conscious, and they have everything you need right there...here's a review I posted a while back: http://www.wheretostay.com/caribbean/us_virgin_islands/property-274-reviews-Concordia_Eco-Tents.html

Please try to search for Maho posts on this forum. There have been several w/recommendations of specific tent cabins. I wish I had been able to get a better one. My cabin was under the bath house ----- peeeeeeyoooooo!
