Hello Everyone,

My family and I are returning to Maho for the 2nd time here on Feb 13th. I am counting down the days. My parents are even joining this time. My son who is 5 remembers our entire trip from last year and that is all he talks about. That is pretty special to me. Maho won all of our hearts even a toddlers 😉 Can anyone tell me about Cabins B2 and B3? Does it have a view? Is it a good location? We stayed at A22 last time and had a good view, and great location to Bathroom. We liked that area very much, but it was already booked. Any suggestions on a day sail that is reasonably priced and goes to snorkel locations not in the BVI?? Thanks so much for your insight!!!

Hey emtjen, I pulled out my 2004 Maho map and it shows B2 and B3 as adjacent near the top of the steps to the beach. It looks like there won't be much of a view and it will be near two of the highest traffic areas: the long runway out to the As and the steps to the beach. It might be good for you if you want to avoid those long walks. My favorite cabins are A13 and A14. Either way, you'll have a blast. With youngsters you'll be up early anyways.

Cheers, RickG

At least you won't have 120 steps to the bathroom in the middle of the night!!

Thank you for your tips. I appreciate it. We leave in a week and are so excited. We are so in love with St.John and Maho. It is a beautiful thing when my 5 year old states he would rather go to st.john over disney. That speaks for itself!!! Thank you everyone for your replies. This sight is great and just as warming as the people of STJ.

I'll check the map when I get home from work today. I always wanted to scan it, but it's 11x17.

asral, cabin B15 is at the end of Iguana Alley below the registration desk. There is a short cut to the left of the registration desk or you can enter iguana alley on the beach steps 2/3 of the way up. There is a bath house nearby.

Cheers, RickG

thanks a bunch. now bathrooms are key for me - but on the top of my list is does the cabin seem to have any sort of view? what is your general opinion of this area?

the reception desk is so odd too! the other day the lady told me my cabin had been assigned and the number b15. today the lady i spoke with said it had been assigned but they don't tell which one it is before you get there.

since you both have been to maho before i have a few questions if you please. i am leaving on friday and now of course feel pressure to actually pull myself together and start packing etc.

is there a wine key or opener in the cabin?

what about cups? i hate to drink wine (or anything for that matter) out of metal. i have these cute, light weight plastic cups i was thinking of bringing. i know there isn't much in amenities at maho so those cups, plus my thermos full of a fruity drink might come in handy on the beach.

can you use candles in the cabin. nothing like a little romance with the dh 🙂

do they give you a sponge and dish washing fluid? i expect we will be washing those cups a bit as we plan to have lots of yummy drinks.

i have insect repellent and two flashlights and sunscreen anything else you can think of that is vital? i tried to find a mosquito net today but i couldn't get one at target. i sent out an email to some hardcore camper friends.

do all of the cabins have an outdoor seating area? if we do plan on eating at the cabin i would think we would want to eat outside.

any tips or pointers for a first timer? thanks you guys are awesome!

Asrai, Okay I hope I got them all.

Your cabin that I am pretty sure you are assigned to does not have a view of much sort from what I can remember. I know that stinks our cabin does not have much of a view either this time, kinda luck of the draw. The only other draw back is less breeze means more bugs.

You do have plastic cups and dish soap and sponges.

Flash lights, batteries, sunscreen, bug spray that seems like the essentials. I brought a sweatshirt when it got cool at night. I also slept in shorts but long sleeves, because my arms seem to be vulnerable when exposed.

There are huge cockroaches so keep all your suitcases zipped at all times or you will have unfriendly visitors when you get home.

As for the wine key?? I do not remember.

I too was trying to find a mosquito net in stores no luck. We did not need one last year though. Just buy the mosquito coils and burn them at night. You can purchase them at the Maho store. Airlines do not allow them on. It is also a necessity to sweep all the sand out of your cabin a couple times a day. Keeps the no seeums down.

You do have a patio with patio furniture you can use on your deck so to speak. Like the rubbermaid style.

Maho is very simple, but you will appreciate the experience. It is wonderful to not have a TV or an agenda. Just enjoy! Have a great trip. I am so jealous you get to leave a week before me! Oh my husband reminds me that you may want to take an anti itch cream too, like benedryl or some type of cortisone. 🙂

Have a great trip, let me know how it went 🙂

Jenny

We brought two padlocks (we use combination locks so we don't have to keep track of keys). One padlock for the tent itself and one for the built-in safe box. We try to remember to bring a flashlight if we're going to be getting back after dark. Combination locks aren't easy to open in the dark.

oh yeah. i do have locks also. i have read a few places that people suggest bringing an extension cord because of the fans and the outlets?

good to know that i should buy the coils there - that was on my list. what time does the store close? i think we will be getting in at night once we eat in cruz bay.

i just read that all the tents have a private outdoor seating area. yeah! i like to eat outside usually. alhtough i dunno - them bugs!

I know it sounds odd - but can you bring a flash light in a carry on. The rules are so varied now. Thanks!

Definitely bring the anti itch cream or better yet a product called AFTER BITE. We were down in early January and we forgot our after bite! YIKES Enjoy.
