Anyone have any opinions about Maho Bay Camps in January? We are thinking of spending some time there and here it is rustic and cool. Nice beaches relative to the rest of the island? Good people? any comments would be cool
thanks

Maho Bay camps are basic but nice. January is a nice month here, but it's high season, so you should book ASAP. Maho's beach is adequate, and the camps run a shuttle to Cruz Bay and some of the other NPS beaches. You will be close to all the other beaches on STJ, since it's a 9 x 5 mile island!

You might also want to try Concordia Eco Tents (also at http://www.maho.org// - owned by the same person).

A visit to Maho Bay Campgrounds changed my life. How so, well I now live on St.Thomas. First time snorkeling in the beach at Maho was amazing (this was 15 years ago, so I now know that there might and most likely are other better spots), but it was a wonderful place. Effieciently run, good food. Make sure you have rented a jeep so you can get around. Definately other beaches to check out. Perhaps even the ferry over to St.Thomas and a couple of beaches and sights of interest over here as well. You could do no wrong in my book, choosing Maho Bay Campground as a jumping off place for a wonderful visit. Be prepared for lots of stairs up and down between your tent and the beach.

Great hiking from Maho- Annaberg Ruins, Leinster Bay, several other trails. You can get a map from the NPS information/gift shop in Cruz Bay. The Maho restaurant is very low key, but a great bargain by St John prices. They usually have a meat, fish and vegetarian dish with salad bar included for dinner. Huge breakfasts, too. But eat up because you will work it off walking up and down the wooden ramps and steps through the woods.

thanks all for the info.
we have now booked a few days at Maho Bay, and my wife's work is putting us up for 4 days at the Westin so I guess we will get the camp experience and the more high end experience at the Westin. Looking forward to our time in the islands
cheers
