Just curious….

I have been planning to come to virgin islands for about 4 months. There were many times I found people saying that Magens Bay is usually in the top 5 of the most beautiful beaches in the world, or something like it’s gonna be on the very top of any world best beaches.

The facts that I found:

- Travel Channel is having a beach week program now, and the Best Postcard Perfect Beach 2005 (in USA) is Trunk Bay of St. John. And no beach from the whole virgin islands is in the world list. I think that maybe this is just the result of this year. So, I tried 2004, again no luck with Magens Bay, but I found Trunk Bay again. So, Trunk Bay is on their list at least 2 consecutive years. I also look at their All-Time list. Trunk Bay is still in their All-Time list. They must really like Trunk Bay. ( The travel channel list is the result from Conde Nas Traveller, Fodor’s, and USA Today travel )

- I thought that it’s only their opinion. So, I try to search on-line for Megans…keep searching, searching, searching…… and found no spot on any list for Megans, absolutely nothing.

I understand that….. it doesn’t need to be on any lists to be a good beach. It’s a good beach if it’s a good beach. Who care about the lists !…

But I am just curious… Anybody have any solid information about the golden era of Magens Bay being on the top of any list? Maybe in the past?

Thanks for sharing…

It seems that the Travel Channel's "survey" might be a bit ambiguous. I view two different survey, one of beaches in the US and the other on beaches of the world, not including the US. That said. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, one man's poison, etc. Magens Bay is a beautiful, calm, sandy bottomed beach. It is great for swiming, especially kids but not for snorkling. When I visit STT, I swim at MB, Coki Point, yes Coki Point not Coki Beach and Vessup Beach. Don't worry about a classification or rating, rate it yourself when you visit. Also a milkshake from Udder Delight just up the hill from MB will "set it off" for you.

as my dim memory recalls, the top 5 rating for m. bay came from a nat'l geographic article. but r.n. is correct; who cares about ratings when you're actually laying out on the beach at m. bay or trunk or cinnamon or sapphire or .............

Thanks for sharing Norman,

For me, I am gonna go to MB for sure on my next week VI trip regardless of any ratings because all the pictures of MB I’ve seen are so good. All the listings and ratings are just people’s opinions. Who knows, maybe MB will be the best beach in my list after I come back, and I think what I like is more important than what other people like when it comes to travel.

About Travel Channel list, I think USA is included in the world category because a beach from Hawaii and one from Florida were in the 2004 list, and the same beach from Hawaii is in the All-Time (1999-2003) world list.

MB is a great beach, I know. And I am another person who don’t care about the rating when I decide to go on a vacation. My point now is about how accurate the info I have of MB …,which comes to the same question…

Has anyone actually ever seen it on any top beach lists?...Just my curiosity.

I believe it was several years ago that (not sure which magazine singular or plural) had Magens listed as one of the top TEN most beautiful beaches.

Since the beach hasn't changed in all those years....it should still make the rating. However, it is now a pretty busy place for most of the day, with cruise ship tourists spending the day at the beach.

Trunk Bay, on St.John, another of the Virgin Islands, is a beautiful beach, but once again, all the promotion of it has made it an EXTREMELY busy place with tourists.

It is still possible to see them and other magnificent beaches without all the tourists.

Comne and enjoy for yourself and don't worry about what someone puts on a list.

If you want I can e-mail you a recent photo of it and you can visit my website for other island photos.
