we've always flown delta nonstops stt to atlanta (& viceversa), however no seats come sat 12/16 except out of san juan. we've booked cape air to san juan but was told by daughter who did recently she had to claim her checked luggage in san juan and recheck with delta for flt to atl, no through checking. said it took her almost 2 hours (also a saturday) and she almost missed her flt. god, i don't want to die at sju.

anyone know whether she screwed up on checking in with cape air or is that the way she connects thru sju? we'll miss a flt with a bunch of empty seats if it takes longer than an hour connecting with checked bags in sju. help please from those hearty road warriors who have gone where i have never gone before. (real goal is keeping the bride who is a kept woman from getting po'ed with my poor planning.

thanks for any insight.

I am very much afraid that you will have to collect your baggage and get it to Delta yourself. At least we had to do that last time we flew Cape Air. And it will take longer than an hour. Can you get by with carry ons? You should check with Cape Air AND Delta.

linda,

thanks for info and we'll have too much crap to avoid checking bags. i should have known better than question baby daughter, she usually correct on air travel info. just hoping for better news. just don't want to still be at sju "come monday". we'll have plently of time (too much) before last flt out that has plently of seats. price you pay for flying standby.

We flew AA to San Juan and did not have to get our luggage to Cape Air. AA transferred our luggage to Cape Air behind the scenes. When we arrived in STT and they unloaded from Cape Air our checked luggage was on the plane. It was really nice that we did not have to collect and recheck in San Juan.

vl,

thanks for info. what about return through san juan on cape air? were your bags checked through. daugther thinks the problem she encountered was only stt to sju and not sju to stt.

I too had my luggage checked through via USAirways and Cape Air. BUT, be aware that this is totally dependent on whether the major airline has a baggage agreement with Cape Air - some do, some don't. For that matter, I don't believe USAirways has that agreement any more.

On my flight from Charleston US Air to SJU and then on to Cape Air to STX I was NOT able to check my luggage thru. US AIR does not have an agreement with Cape Air but they do with American/ American Eagle. so I only use them now. Beside that flight on Cape Air was so scary the last time I flew I swore never again. If possible I only travel with carry on regardless of the airlines.
