We will be on St. Thomas for several hours befor our flight leaves. We would like to lunch and shop around Char. Amalie. Unfortunately, we have to come in to Red Hook (ferry from JVD). I have heard that you could check your bags somewhere downtown at the customs/ferry dock. Will this work if we are not taking a ferry into downtown?
Thanks
If you are coming into Red Hook and want to shop in Charlotte Amalie - why not try checking in at the airport early - go down to the airport check in and then go into town - well that depends on how much time you have. Not familiar with the arrangements with the ferry keeping luggage - perhaps someone else will have more information on that.
I agree with Islander. Besides, one of the questions that they ask you when you check you luggage is if it has been out of your sight and control. If you leave it at any location for the day it might present a problem in light of the new security at any airport. The island isn't that big that you can not get to the airport and then do your shopping and site seeing. I would give your airlines a call before you leave home and see what they can do for you.
I believe there is a visitor's center in downtown Charlotte Amalie somewhere. They have lockers where you are able to lock up your luggage for the day while you shop. Any cab driver should be able to take you there.
