I have to tell you, my wife and I have done our research! I feel like I could write a book about the STJ beaches based on everything we've read. But nothing beats real experiences.
Here's our question - we really have just 5 days to be in STJ. The other 2 days of our vacation are travel days. Our plan is to hit one beach a day. But which ones? I'll help you help us by giving you some info about what we're looking for:
* We're staying on the Cruz Bay side, and will have a jeep.
* We are both artistically bent. She paints. I'm a photographer, so scenery is muy bueno!
* Sitting in the sun with a cold adult beverage in hand - watching the waves - listening to the surf is a Good Thing.
* We're not exactly the model of physical fitness, so locations that require no more than a moderate hike are preferred (this trip).
* We loathe tourists - which is why we're coming in the off part of the off season.
* We love local flavor - which is why we chose STJ over STT.
So, based on that, what are your Top 5 STJ Beaches?
I don't remember if you said where you were staying? Just curious, because I think I've looked at the Web site of every villa in the history of STJ this time.
We'll be at Serendip. It seems to be exactly the kind of place my wife and I love.
I have always wanted to stay there, but haven't made it yet. I think you are going to love St. John.
I'm being totally nosy, but when did you say you were going again? I know you said low season, which I think is best.
Haulover North, facing Tortola, is one i would recommend. You will enjoy the Road to the East End. For a preview, Check out the road trip at www.sloopjones.com
sloop
I'd recommend "beach hopping" on your first day to see which one you're most comfortable on. Then, spend the rest of your vacation there.
You're almost there, you lucky son of a gun! We have to wait 'til the end of October...

Pick your beach by the wind. If it is a calm wind day or if it is from the east, the North Shore beaches are best. If the wind is kicking up waves from the north then head to the South Shore beaches.
North Shore, close to Cruz;
Honeymoon, park at Caneel, pack a LIGHT load. 15-20 minute easy flat walk, walk gets hot in afternoon.
Hawksnest, park at the beach, find your spot in the sand. Much more sand available at a lower tide.
Jumbie, only 4 or 5 parking spots on inland side of road, south of Trunk.
My second most favorite beach to get away from crowds is Little Lambshur.
Noah's Littlle Ark dinghy rental doesn't have a website but this link will give you their contact numbers:
www.cbt.cc/yellowphp/yellowresult-goal-Detail-ckey-3367.htm
There are many good reviews on their operation. Cheers!
Here is a link to the Noah's Little Arks Web Page
Says it was last updated in February 2008 so I guess it is kinda current
Here again reservations are by phone
You're right ToMB, guess I didn't properly google so thanks!
Would you believe my wife is leery about renting one of those?? She'd rather pay for a charter - which we may end up doing provided I can find a good deal. I'll check at Connections 😀
Would you believe my wife is leery about renting one of those?? 😀
Truthfully now…
Is your wife concerned about the boat or is it the Captain at the helm which brings on her concern
😉 😉 😉 😉 😉
It is always the best day of my trips you are never far from shore. She would have a blast.

I was just reading this thread and telling someone that I'd be terrified to go out in a dighy. I'm curious to hear what everyone has to say about it -- especially since Ed's wife sounds like it's not her idea of fun either.
The dinghy's look great to me. Thanks for the phone number. But, They are just for trolling around STJ and the small islands/ cays near by right? They are not for taking very far. You need a larger boat such as the charter Ed's wife is interested in to take a trip over to say the soggy dollar, right?
We have about two weeks until we leave for our trip down....I've already started to pick out some juicy novels, I just it's too soon to pack.
Oh yeah a much larger boat to get to JVD, STT, or anywhere in the BVI
What the dinghys do is allow you to explore from Cruz Bay to Waterlemon Cay without looking for parking and getting sand in the rental car. On windy days you should not try to get to Waterlemon - stay on the north beaches
There is really no need to go over couple hundred yards off shore except to go around some rocks off Caneel... (I forget some one I am sure knows) But rest assured the dinghy folks let you know.
Yes dinghys are not for everybody but they open up a whole lot of fun for those that do.
