Question to All:

Can someone tell me what high season versus low season is?

I have been coming to the islands for several years and always get different answers, for example.

I have booked a location on SJ starting 4-16, this because I was told it better priced because it is low season.

I then attempt to book a vehicle to use, and am told that the rates are higher due to being 'High" season.

It would be nice if all of the different businesses that want folks to come and stay and spend would all be on the same page.

Just wondering what others think?

April 16 is on the cusp without a doubt.

Usually you can find the villa's pricing going down the weekend After Easter Sunday. The weeks on both sides of Easter are very popular and then it begins to taper off. However usually for housing you can use 3 or 4 week of April. Cars are usually May 1, some May 15.

So there is no right answer as best as I can tell

RM: April is Carnival month for St Thomas. There are activities throughout, with the main parades and final activities the end of the month. It is a popular time for Virgin Islanders who have moved away to come back, visit friends and family. Cars are usually at a premium. I think of season ending after Carnival- so May 1st or so. There isn't an official time for prices to change, if that is what you are asking. 😉

Businesses aren't on the same page because season is not an official thing. High season here is when it is cool/cold in the northeastern states, approximately Thanksgiving through Easter. Summers we see fewer ships as many go Alaska, Europe, and the Mediterranean, but summer can be busy here because kids are out of school and families come for vacation. Low season here would be when it is warm in the northeastern states and kids are in school (late spring, early fall.)

In my mind the high season starts around 12/15 and then ends based when Easter comes than add a few weeks. Then there is a secondary peak around June through August 1. Then there is the low, low season of September. My room rates change based on this schedule.

At the Buccaneer we have 3 seasons, Summer, Christmas and Winter. Summer season usually starts the 3rd week of April and goes until December 19th. Christmas is 12/20 to 1/2 or 3, and the winter season from the first week of January until the middle or April. Prices & specials vary (GREATLY).

billd: September is more like: "Yoo Hoo! If anyone is there, make sure to turn off the lights and put out the cat!"
