cruising in jan. 06- board in san juan
ports of call: STT, ST. KITTS/NEVIS, GRENADA, CARACAS, ARUBA
this is second time in STT, so I don't need info, but I would like to hear from anyone who has been to the other stops and may have suggestions as to best/most beautiful beaches, best snorkeling beaches, beaches with beach bars. Hubby and I are not into power shopping and sightseeing is not his bag so beaching it is what I'm most interested in. any websites I could be directed to would be awesome. ONE THING THOUGH! Is there a Harley shop at any of these ports, and if so, directions to get there would be great!
THNX!!

another source for info on islands outside the USVI is www.cruisecritic.com
They have message boards of people asking and answering these same types of questions about all the various islands that cruise ships visit.
We were in Grenada a few years back. We stayed at LaSagesse on the south side of the island. It was beautiful and very quiet. You will want to walk around St Georges (the capitol city) and go to Grand Anse beach. St Georges is one of the most beautiful cities in the Carribean.
There's a Harley store in St Thomas. It's in International Plaza (the building where Hard Rock Cafe USED to be) on the Waterfront.
The beaches in Nevis are supposed to be breathtaking! Also in St. Kitts, you can arrange to spend the day with a local family. I think it's a tour in partnership with the govt, so maybe you can find out about it from their website.
Haven't heard any comments about beaches in your other ports of call.
Tamlyn,
IMHO leaving from San Jaun is the only way to start a cruise. Puerto Ricans are wonderful people and the island has a lot of interesting history.
I flew in a couple days before the cruise and stayed in the Condado region. Doing that gives you some time to sightsee in PR.
But if you're arriving on the same day as the cruise departs, I recommend that you check your bags and get back off the boat. You can explore Old San Juan by foot or take a taxi. To be honest, it get's a little scary after dark if you get off the beaten path, but stay in the touristy areas and hotels and I think you'll be fine.
Old San Juan has a couple of Forts (one is nearly 500 years old) that are must see. And the town is frenetic with excitement and parties all over.
If you're looking for a beach, the best close beach I found is Isla Verde. You'll have to take a taxi. It's a big white sand beach with hotels and condos surrounding it.
I've also been to St. Kitts, and I'll ask the wife where we went and where we SHOULD have gone. I went to the wrong beach on St. Kitts, so I'll try to get you to a better one.
John
Thanks all of you for the information!
