Hello All!
I am trying to find a place to stay on Saint John for my husband and I, and our 9 yr old daughter. The Westin is just too much for us to give up (over 700 a night!!), and we have been looking but can't find a place that will rent for two nights only.... any advice? We are going to stay at the Wyndham the prior two nights, then take the ferry to Saint John...
thanks so much,
Lindsay

edited to change dates

Hello,
evidently, you mean March of '08, so I would think you'd have plenty of time to find a place for 2 nights that far off. There is a B&B called Estate something er other near Cruz Bay that some say is a wonderful place to stay. I think they rent by the night. someone else will know what I'm talking about - wish I could have been more help!

umm I meant April 18/19
gosh, I feel stupid.
I live in STX, well for the time being, but are contract has prematurely ended (gotta love those hovensa budget cuts!!) and our attempts at a permanent position with Heffs was fruitless... So we figure we will take the kids on a mini vacation on our way home. Hence the problem trying to find a place. I will definitely look up the place you recommended though!
Thanks,
Lindsay

Mountaineer girl, I think you're thinking of Estate Lindholm. Also cheap and in town are Inn at Tamarind Court and St. John Inn, although I've never been inside any of these places so I can't vouch for them!

What is your budget ?? and do you need to be able to walk to town or will you have a car??
Estate Lindholm is beautiful but it is for adults only.
Let us know how much you want to spend and where you want to be and we can help more.

I also looked into Estate Lindholm since the price was right, but the website states no children. Go figure. Can't imagine why that would be since there's no nude beaches anywhere on STJ...maybe it's the "Hedonism" of the VI's! Nah, probably just crabby owners...

Nevermind the above. That was another place. Estate Lindholm was only for a 2 person max in each room, tho.

Many adults prefer to vacation in places that do not include children. Given the reputation and occupancy rate of Estate Lindholm, I assume this works for their clientele.

Star - if you're planning to rent a car, I'd recommend Estate Concordia studios. They're located outside of Coral bay, so a car is recommended. The studios are reasonable and spacious with a kitchen for breakfast & more. The view is awesome! There's a pool which is great after a day at the beach (you 9-yr-old would like that!). There are eco-tents at Concordia as well (never stayed in them, but have heard good things). Check out the website: http://www.maho.org/Estate.cfm

Well yes, Estate Lindholm was what I was thinking of, but I now remember that I'd read it was adults only. But Concordia does sound like a better option.

No problem about the date mistake! I do that alot at work - get used to writing down a certain date all day, and then my brain can't make an adjustment!

Hope you enjoy your trip - but then again, you have been living in paradise anyhow!!

Thank you all so much for your help... I suppose we don't really have a "budget" persay.. We are paying 330.00 a night for our rooms at the Wyndham.. so somewhere in that area. My husband just completely balked at the 750.00 asking rate per night at the Westin... I don't blame him, but, I was really looking forward to spending a night or two there!! I'm going to check out that Maho.org place, thank you so much for the link. I definitely want to go to a "kid friendly place". I have had my fill of crabby people.. LOL J/K
*don't yell at me!!*

I just really want to treat my daughter to something fun and special since she is being forced to leave her third grade class a month and a half early at Country Day and be homeschooled the rest of the year in Austin... I am just so mad!!! Plus, she's been wanting one of the three circle bracelets that represent all three islands and I've been telling her for months she can only get one when she's been to all three.. What places in STT sell nice quality ones? (here we buy from Sonyas or IB)

anyhow, back to the original content... if anyone else thinks of an idea, please let me know!!

take care,
Lindsay

Try checking out the villa rental websites:

islandhideaways.com
Windspree.com
caribbeanvilla.com
destinationstjohn.com

If you find others, try them, too. Basically you'll want to just call the companies directly and tell them your two dates. Being that you're only 3 weeks out, if they have any 2-3 day openings in their calendars for any of their villas, you could potentially fill an open slot.

Good luck Lindsay! Your daughter will have a BLAST at Wyndham. They have an awesome kids club there if she would like to be with other kids for the day. The people that run it are very engaged and FUN. They do scavenger hunts, iguana feedings, tennis, boat races in the pool, etc. It's included with the AI program.

Lindsay,
I've stayed at Gallow's Point for less than a week, so I don't think they have a minimum and it's within walking distance of Cruz Bay for restaurants or catching the shuttle taxi's out to the beaches. We loved staying there and the children that I saw seemed to enjoy the pool, etc. You can rent either through Gallow's Point directly or through a rental agency called Suite St. John that rents some of the units for their owners. All of the condos are individually owned so do some research to try to get a unit that is more updated than others.

check out Cinnamon Bay, they have beach cabins, it's fairly inexpensive and it's right on the beach (or a VERY short walk depending on which one is available), noticed lots of kids there and it's a nice spot. We didn't actually stay there but we looked at the cabin for future. They are campy know doubt about that but for 2 or 3 nights I think it would be fun. The nice thing about that is you wouldn't really have to rent a car unless you wanted to venture out on your schedule as the taxi's tend to park there and wait for passengers. Just a thought!

thanks so much to all!!!! I decided to go with MAHO, and since they only had the tents available, that is what we rented. We have stayed a few times at Mt. Victory Camp here in STX that seems to be similar in structure...
http://www.mtvictorycamp.com/adventures.html
(we also had my daughters 9th bday there!)
Hopefully all will work out... They seem to have wonderful arts and crafts clinics for kids and that is exactly what we were looking for. Thank you for giving me that link!

LandLocked, we tried to get the AI program at the Wyndham but it was not available at the time of booking, actually the days I booked we're the only two days they DID have open (gotta love wedding season!) .... She won't be denied access to the kids club, will she? Is it just an extra fee? I guess I am going to triple check that now, because when I previously asked they said it was included... but I don't tend to believe things around here unless I hear them from at least three sources. ykwim?!

Love to all,
Lindsay

Lindsay - will you be staying at Maho Bay or Concordia? They have eco-tents at both locations; just wondering where you ended up.
