Good Day!
I wonder if you could help me locate an older water taxi style used in the islands several years ago.
It was a catamaran, about 40’ long, and had two large diameter arched tubes that tied the two pontoons together, with the passenger cabin mounted about 5’ off the water on top of these arched tubes. The engines were mounted in the two pontoons.
I am doing research on this concept and several years ago saw a photograph of one such water taxi named “SPYDER”
I would be most grateful if you knew of such a boat or even had pictures and a possible location.
Sincerely,
Ric Stanley

I don't know if you've contacted Dohms Water Taxi operation here but the family is buried in St Thomas history and would likely know what you're referring to. I've been here for almost 30 years and have never heard of such a water taxi operation so I'm guessing the "several years ago" is quite a while? Good luck!
You might also contact Gold Coast Yachts 778-1004 - even though they may not have been involved in the boat mentioned it is likely they know of the design and other info.
This may not be what you were asking about, but about 32 years ago, there was a party cat. called Kon Tiki (i think) and was decorated exactly as you would think. Good Luck.
The last time I saw the old KonTiki was a year or so ago when she was sitting dockside at Gregorie East. She was such an institution for so many years!
Kon Tiki has been going througha major refit and is expected to receive a COI from the Coast Guard and return to service in the near future.
Neither the old smaller Kon Tiki from 32 years ago, or the current boat, which has been around for over twenty years, look anything close to the description provided by the OP. Could it have been the cat. Hotei day charter that tied up by the Coast Guard pier in the 70's?
