Start with this message posted by CJ on 1/16/06 looking for a villa (that is what they call most of the houses on St. Johh) in July. There are many messges with lots of links for places to stay on St. John.

Also click on St. John and accomodations for some of the places that pay to advertise on the board.

St. John is all about its beaches. THis is my favorite beach guide.

2/3 of the island is National Park. They sponcer guided hikes and tours. Visit the National Park Web Site at http://www.nps.gov/viis/InterpProgram.htm

This link says it is a complete list of restaurants on St. John. When you find one you like use the board search feature and you should be able to find comments from someone who has gone.

I learned the most about "not to miss places" from reading people's trip reports. Some people don't want to miss seeing the historical ruins - Me, I don't want to miss the beach with the best snorkeling. Which I think seems to be Waterlemon Cay. Some people want to kayak and hike. Some people rent a dingy and go out on their own to snorkel spots that are harder to get to. Some pay for a daysail to take them snorkeling.(That's my choice)

My first trip is 5 weeks and 3 days away yet. I have learned alot from reading this board since August. Beware - The board is also addicting for us planners.

We have used CaribbeanVillas for years, never been disappointed in their residences that they manage. Everything has been great, the one time I need to contact them while we were there they went out of their way to help us.

They have an office in Cruz Bay and ahve been around forever.

Good Luck.

As far as what to do and see, it is an island, take in everything you can. Get to know some of the locals they are great people who can really help you to the right places and contacts.
