Planning to visit StJ...we'll be in the water most of the time (love to snorkel)...would appreciate any good water sites as well as a recommendation on which area to stay in (near Cruz Bay or Coral Bay). Thanks a lot!!

Just about anywhere there is water, you will find good snorkeling...it's that abundant. Give ua a little more of your likes/dislikes and we can makesomebetter recommendations for you. Same goes for places to stay. What do you like, and how much do you want to spend? More info...

Marty-

In a place to stay, we like views, quiet, comfortable, a few good restaurants nearby and a king bed; we like to "get what we pay for"--sometimes tough to tell on wesites, I know. While snorkeling, we like to see variety of fish, good coral and don't mind a long swim to get to a worthwhile site. We avoid shopping and tourists as much as possible. Thanks,LA

You will be renting a car so 80% of the island is available to you. For snorkeling, I prefer Hawksnest, Francis Waterlemon, Salt Pond and the Lamshure Bays> Trunk is beautiful but you should schedule your visit to leave before 10:30 or arrive after 4 to avoid cruise traffic. If you want beautiful beaches to lay out on, the above also make the grade but there are about 2 dozen more.

Accomodations with a view...you're going to the right place but price and availability will depend upon what views you are after. You can get 'water access', 'water view' or 'scenic view (read hillside)'. Hillside views will offer the best panoramic view of the islands and tend to have more breeze.

From your description, I suggest looking in Coral Bay. You can get good meals, lower prices (relative to Cruz Bay) and it feels more like old island although that is rapidly changing. If you want to go cosmo for the evening, drive the 30 minutes to Cruz Bay.

The cruise schedule is normally posted during the last few days of the month. July's schedule should be out on the 28th or 29th next week.
