What are best local places for breakfast , lunch, dinners, drinks. I figure the message board is the best place to get vacation info.
For dinner in Cruz Bay we like Sogo's (West Indian) or Sosa's (Latin Caribbean). And I've read that someone from Fred's family is putting out food either at Fred's or next door. For lunches/breakfasts Hercules has pate and other local fare. There are also small cart/truck operations around the pavilion and the post office (Shela's and Patrick's). Mooie's is a good place to stop in for a drink and the local experience.
In Coral Bay, Sweet Plantains and Miss Lucy's have sort of upscale West Indian menus. There are a few small operations at the triangle that serve breakfast/lunch. The guys at the Fire Foods trailer were doing some real interesting local foods. The Sputnik bar also serves food sometimes. The Sputnik is also a good place for a drink and a local experience. They have live music occasionally. In the East End Vie has good local food.
I'm assuming that this is what you were asking about. The word "local" has different meanings at different times. Sometimes it's very broad, meaning anyone who isn't a tourist. Other times it refers to the West Indian population. And sometimes it means someone either born on the island or with deep roots there. Usually when people speak of "local" food, what's meant is West Indian/Caribbean.
On St John you have to go to Uncle Joes for barbque chicken and ribs.... Delicious!
If you are in your twentys or early thirtys go to Woodys during happy hour (3-6). The drinks are cheap. Try the grouper fingers. Yum!!
