May I please have some suggestions of local car rental places that any of you have used and would highly recommend? If I could spend my money with a local I would feel better that with the national companies...

Hi VI....

I have been very pleased with Dependable Car Rental on St. Thomas. I've used them about 15-20 time in the last 10 years or so. They are family owned and managed, and have always beat the corporate rates by at least a few bucks or more. The other service they offer me is adjusting the weekly rate so that when I stay longer than the rates period, they charge me the weekly day rate instead of overtime as the bigger companys do.

They also will pick you up at the airport, and deliver you when it's time to leave, and there is no charge for this service. Beats the taxie service.

Good luck and have fun.....keep us posted on your visit.

Andrew

We have always used Judi of St Croix. They meet us at the airport. We have never had any problem.

I'll second the friendly service of Dependable Car Rental in St. Thomas. They have a web site http://www.dependablecar.com They are a family operation and have always greated us with enthusiasm each year that we return. They have always gone out of their way to help us out even when I messed up the reservation process. I'd rather give the business to a friendly family operation rather than a national chain any day of the week. Set up your rental via the internet so that when you land in St. Thomas all you have to do is call them on the pay phone (remeber to bring their local number as there are no phone books) and tell them that you have just stepped into paradise. By the time you retrieve your bags and have a rum punch or two they'll be curbside to pick you up. Check in takes only about 15 minutes or so. Have a great time and tell them that Rick & Deb said hello and we'll see them next year again.

Try Tri Island Car Rental. You can't get any more local than that! Proprietor Eddie La Borde.

Is this for St. Croix?? (I recall your other post said you were visiting St. Croix.) Do you only need the rental for St. Croix or are you visiting other islands also?

I always recommend and use Goldmine Car Rental in Christiansted. Eddy is local, his rates are great, he's very cooperative about pick up times and his cars are excellent: http://www.stcroixgoldmine.com/ at the bottom of the page. Call though, don't use e-mail.

Don't know where you're planning to stay (east end, west end, north shore, etc.) but Pink Fancy might be a possibility: http://www.pinkfancy.com/

Islander,
The need is for St. Croix. Although I will be in STT for 3 days, I have relatives there. STX is my home, but no relatives there... sad.

Thanks for the guidance, all.
