Any suggestions on where to view/buy local art (particularly watercolors)?

On St. John, Elaine Estern has a wonderful gallery where she lives down the road from Cruz Bay! She is a watercolorist and we absolutely fell in love with much of her work (bought 2 prints). She is so sweet and personable - she lives in her home/gallery with her two chocolate labs (who are often in her paintings), Truffle & Godiva.

When staying at Gallows, we'd often look to our left and saw her in the water with her raft - and dogs!

Laura,
A page or two back I started a post under the title, "Do You Buy Art.?"
Several folks added who, and where their favorite artists were located, and what they themselves enjoyed and liked to purchase when visiting the islands. Check it out.
Glad there was another asking.

I don't know any names other than Diane Art, but there are lots of great artists on the islands. We saw gorgeous work in the galleries.

The St John Artist's Association has a gallery at the Lumberyard complex where Pollie's used to be. They have a wide range of local artist's works on display, in various mediums.

Wow, we bought a print from Elaine as well, really loved her studio, could have spent all day there. My son's mother in law bought them one of her prints of Trunk Bay, where the wedding ceremony was, for their wedding present.

We are everywhere on St. John. Try Bajo El Sol in Cruz Bay.... a traditional Gallery.. go out o Maho Bay to see what the glassworks, pottery, and fiber artists are doing.....in Coral Bay poke around at the shops at Shipwreck and Cocoloba...and on the East End ...Les Anderson and myself have studios.

Good tip! I always forget about Maho when I am there, but have read about the glass blowing, fiber art, etc. Will try and remember next year.

What happened to the pottery place that was in Mongoose Junction (sorry I can't remember the name of the place, but it was there for YEARS)! They made outdoor lights, fountains, vases, etc, etc.! When I went over to buy some bedding for one of the villas, I was lookin' forward to going in and seeing what they had- They were GONE! Anyone?

sherri,

Yes, the Donald Schnell Studio was at Mongoose Junction for many years.
New location on the second floor of the Amore Center in Cruz Bay.

What's the glass blowing you are talking about at Maho? Is it a shop? Or just artists working out at the beach? I'll have to check it out next time!

Make sure you go see the above "Sloop Jones" also. They are at the very end of East End (Rt. 10).

Are there any websites to any of the local artists so one can view their work. This past April, my husband and I were looking to buy some art while on STJ.

The Szygy Gallery in Coral Bay is a good place to poke around for the work of local artists:
