Do any of the dive boats take you to areas for lobstering? I know many people do not want to give-up information about their "lobster holes", so has anyone heard of dive charters who will take you to a certain area that may have the "bugs"?

Hello Jaybird,

I haven't heard of any promoting this in particular. What island are you visiting? You could e-mail or call a few of the dive operators and see what they say.

I'll be staying at the Westin in STJ. I lobster quite a bit in the Florida Keys but am afraid that since I will be bringing my family to the V.I.'s, I will not be able to make my regular trips because of vacation days and money. It doesn't seem as if the lobstering is a big past time there, for I have not received much info about it...am I wrong?

It's not a past-time at all...the only reason we do it is so we can eat them. If I could pick them up on the beach for free, I'd never need to get in the water! Haha!

Hello Jaybird,

Folks go lobstering but its not a popular hobby/sport here like you said so that's why you haven't gotten much information back. Also the issue of giving up your own lobster hole comes to mind as another reason. 😉 You might try e-mailing or calling a couple fishing charters and see if they have suggestions. Try http://www.reeltherapy.com, Capt. Gene is from St. Thomas and likely knows some lobstering holes so might be able to do a lobstering/fishing day if you are interested. Let us know what you find out.

Qualify: One if by Land, Two if by Sea......I'm not sure of the exact location because I went by water/dinghy so I ask for the help of residents to point the direction by land.

I found the local fishermen the last time I was there and they sell Lobster. I got a couple of those bugs and they were delicious! Its in Frenchtown area, between the "tire store" (we had a flat tire that needed repair) and the sea plane. There's a bunch of local fishermen and their boats along the seawall. Of course, with all the talk about Frenchtown in other posts....but, go IN THE DAYTIME!! They won't be there at night.
