We're headed back to St. John in January for our fourth trip. Each time we have rented from a different jeep rental company. L&L Jeeps advertises that they pick you up at the dock with the paperwork and that you'll be on your way in 10 minutes- no waiting. They will also meet you at the dock on the date of departure and take the jeep back. This seems wonderful considering all of our past trips the jeep rental process can add up to an hour if the jeep rental company is crowded. I'm wondering if anyone has any feedback on L&L since I've never used them before.
Thanks for your help!
I have not used them, but I know that there is someone on the TA forum that uses them every trip.
I like to rent from a place that has in town parking. That is the one thing that I like because my husband hates to look for a parking spot and hates to pay for one even more, so we always go with STJ Car Rental.
Call Thomas @ Hospitality Car Rental, he is right across the street from Post Office, he also runs a smoothie stand there, I have rented from him for over 10 years now and never had had an issue, plus you can park there anytime you are in Cruz Bay.
We are planning a visit in June, and are using L&L Jeep, because our villa property manager recommended them. As of now, our flight arrives after their normal hours on a Saturday, and L&L is promising to be there to handle everything.
We are also a little nervous, since we have no history with L&L.
We have used L&L many times and love them. We had to go with a different company last trip because I waited too long to make reservations and L&L did not have the vehicle I wanted. While the company we used was OK and they had in town parking I will use L&L next time. The only downfall that I have seen with L&L is they close down at 6pm (I think) unless you arrange for a late pickup. I believe there is an additional charge for that. And yes, they do meet you at the dock at arrival and departure with the paperwork making it easy for those with luggage. The paperwork and vehicle inspection does go quickly. I have never had a vehicle from them that I have not been happy with. The company I used last trip gave me a jeep with tail light issues and the battery failed on our first day leaving us at our villa waiting for a replacement battery for a few hours. While they were extremely eager to please, it is better to have a good vehicle to begin with rather than someone who is eager to repair the one they gave you.
Edited to add:
We visit during the off-season so we don't have a problem renting from someone who does not have a lot in town. I can see why a rental Company with in town parking would be a great benefit while in-season. Parking is one benefit that L&L does not offer.
We rent on the East End and enjoy the absolute peace and quiet, we don't come into Cruz Bay too often so parking in Cruz Bay isn't a big issue for us. Sounds like they are a good company. We will book through them.
Thanks for all of the advice!
Have a wonderful time. Please let me know how your experience with L&L goes.
Used L and L this past January. They were considerate and the paperwork went very smoothly. The Jeep Wrangler we rented was very clean and the tires were is good condition. I always check the tires on a rental, just a habit that I have when renting.
DO NOT RENT FROM L&L JEEP RENTAL COMPANY!
Have to say, I'm terribly disappointed with this company. Wife and I went down to St. John's for 9 days and rented a wrangler from these guys. Car was fine, no issues there. However, when we made the rental (and the reason we chose them, as this made them less expensive than others), my wife and I were told that we would be refunded a $50 cleaning charge should we return the jeep in a clean condition. I even asked further about this and was told that as long as it wasn't returned terribly dirty we would get the money back.
So following our vacation, my wife and I cleaned the jeep out, scrubbed the outside down and returned it. It was about as clean as you could get without detailing it. So, we were told they would check it out (we had to leave quickly to make the 6am ferry), and if it was clean we would get our money back. Well, a week later, no refund so I called them up. When I asked the fella who answered the phone about our refund, he said our jeep was very dirty and we would get no refund. After imploring to him that there is no way anyone would consider that jeep dirty and he consistently told me it was extremely dirty, I stated that my only recourse would be to leave negative reviews about their business.....the best part...after that he said he would sue me and hung up. Needless to say, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU RENT ELSEWHERE!! Enjoy your vacation, just stay away from these scammers.

St John's on Antigua? Or St John in the USVI?
Do not rent from J&J unless you want to pay an exra $50 cleaning fee. NO sand can be in your Jeep/car or they charge $50. They rip you off!!!
Just returned from a 2-week trip and rented a jeep from L & L. We got a lot of sand in the floors over the 14 days, and had no vacuum... The villa did have a small brush and dust pan, and so we did the best we could before turning the jeep back in. No problem, the deposit was refunded. Second time renting from L & L. First time, after turning in the jeep, we were sitting at the dock waiting for the ferry, and one of the L & L guys shows up to return my son's hat, which he had left in the jeep accidentally, so I'd say they have good service.
My only issue with them is that, unlike some other rental places, they want to charge you for parking in their lot when you're in town. We used Sutton on a previous trip, and if memory serves, we could park in their lot for free??
