did I see the bigger (regular sized) bottle of Grand Marnier for $25 at Havensight? A friend of mine (she lurks here on this board!) is going down June 8, and I wanted her to pick up a bottle for me. 750ml is $35 here.

thanks!

M.G.:

Try Cost-U-Less......a liter bottle of Grand Marnier is $20.98. I brought back 2 bottles.

Other places like K-Mart charge $25.

thanks FI, the cost-u-less price would be half with the taxes on top of the $35 here. and that's for 25% less liquor! Don't know if my friend will go to cost-u-less, but I'll settle for $25 from Havensight or where ever. That's just $4 more, I'll take it!

since Grand Marnier is a different-shaped bottle than rum or whatever - how did they pack it? do they have a box that will fit it?

M.G.:

We used the six pack boxes. If you position your rum bottles and cognac (Grand Marnier) bottles across from each other they will fit. That's assuming your friend will bring back six bottles of liquor.

Who the heck doesn't bring back six bottles of liquor?? Just kidding, I know all kinds of reasons why someone would not.

Since that is NOT the case for me (typically bring back eight), let me just say that for some of us it's a problem to be asked to bring stuff back for friends since it means less liquor for our own purposes. I don't know how much longer I can use the "Would you believe it, the XXX was totally out of Cruzan rum?" ploy.

I agree Joanne, and wouldn't ask her to bring me something back if it meant less for her, but she's not bring back the limit for her and her husband j(12 bottles?) and she said she wouldn't mind. But, on the other hand, my husband said if you wan't the stuff, just go to the store and buy it, since its not something that you drink up very fast. I'm just looking out to save a buck haha.

but with the luck I had bringing home the other liquor, I might be throwing away $25.

Hope you didn't think I was implying that you were one of those "mooches" trying to reduce the amount of liqour I bring back for myself. I actually had a friend tell me the same thing that yours said - they couldn't fill up their 12 bottle allotment and did I need anything. Heck yeah!!!

that's awesome. whether its $20.99 or $25, it way beats $35 PLUS WEST VIRGINIA TAX for a 750ml bottle.

another question - someone told me you can have liquor shipped from down there. How is that possible? would you then have to pay tax on top of the shipping and how do they know whether I'm over 21 or just 13 years old???

1 liter Grand Marnier at Food Center today $19.99. I am skeptical of the legality of shipping liquor.

East Ender, you've lost me there by saying, "I am skeptical of the legality of shipping liquor."

I just don't get your point. Do please explain! Cheers!

I mean, I don't believe that you can pack liquor and send it without paying customs and or taxes. Same with cigs.

Greetings. In reference to "shipping" liquor from the USVI: Since the USVI is designated as "Duty Free". you cannot ship liquor in nor out of the USVI. Customs will sieze it and you will get a nasty letter and possible fine.

well Ok then, thanks for the info. guess shipping is not an option. guess I'll just have to make another trip down sometime if I want more discount liquor, huh! 🙂

Have you amortized the cost of your liquor over the cost of your trip? I once made a special trip from STX to Tortola expressly to purchase a particular rum that is only made there. While I think the rum cost $14 a bottle, I figured if you factored in the cost of the seaplane and ferry it came to roughly $75 a bottle (and worth every penny!). Just kidding - I look at the cheap liquor as a perk rather than the reason for my trip.
