I know that the Magen's Bay management group is planning to take this beach over and set up parking, concession, facilities, etc., but is it now open to the public? Is there access to the beach and parking available?

I was there this past June, was really disappointed when I saw the beach. Trash everywhere, bags of it. You can get there by a short walk past an iron gate and down a road. I'm still glad I went cause I use to go there with friends after work. We usually had the beach to ourselves. A few weeks ago when I walked down the road and cleared the trees, I stood there not believing my eyes. It made me feel like I was in a homeless camp. Unfortunately management will change it, but then it will be cleaned up. It's a beautiful beach, certainly worth the trip there. Don't remember if you can drive down the road because of the gate, perhaps there is another road that I don't know about. Very private and quiet.

Thanks so much for your response, Sleeper18!

So, I guess the beach is open to the public through the gate, but is not being maintained in any way at all. I think I remember reading about some difficulties with the Magen's Bay crew taking over management. When LIndqvist was a gated private property before it was returned to the USVI it was considered a "not-so-safe" destination. Would you say the same still holds true?

Just curious: who maintains beaches like Brewer's Bay and others that are not on resort properties? Who empties the trash cans etc? It sounds as if no one is doing that at Lindqvist.

Gerie, it's supposed to be clean.A group of students from the Catholic School's environmental class cleaned up the beach and gave the Governor an analysis of how the beach should be maintained. Hopefully it will still be that way when you visit.

I was there in may of this year and the gate was open an I was able to drive all the way back. I didn't observe all that much garbage, just alot of junk that washed ashore.

Is this junk from day trips or is it from cruise ships?

We were in Grand Cayman about 5 years ago and i couldn't believe what i saw in the water line there....even hypodermic needles. How disgusting.

I really hope the students got it cleaned up, it's such a beautiful area. When I went to the beach( I was alone) and my gut feeling was, no one around, very isolated, I think because it truly was an abused area with all the trash, I wasn't comfortable. If I needed help, I would have been outta luck. When I go back to STT, I will visit the beach again, hopefully, and probably so, things will have changed. It is so private, quiet and beautiful, that to me is very appealing.
I was told by an employee where I stayed, the young locals hang out there and leave their trash. I'll be anxious to hear more reports on it. Like I said earlier, it's worth the trip .
Thanks for the update RonUSVI
I would not class it as a "not-so safe" area. It's always safer to be with people in isolated areas, and use common since.

Gerie: John Brewer's Bay is UVI property. I believe UVI maintains it. The students think of it as their very own beach. And I guess it kinda is!

I was just at this beach on the 21st , it was fairly clean ( parking area ) , the beach itself was fabulous !!! There were about 15 people on the beach that day , the biggest crowd I had seen for the times I have been there !

Thanks everyone for all your responses. I appreciate the feedback.

tmanvi, it's great to read about your recent experience. Is there a specific parking area beyond the gate? I'm also curious to know if there is any decent snorkeling at this beach.

I haven't snorkeled there yet ! Also , you will see the kind of spots you can pull your car up to and park , right up to beach's edge !
