I leave for St. John on Friday night. We're very excited. Since we fly redeye from Seattle we don't arrive until Saturday afternoon.
On Saturday afternoon, we'll be so jet-lagged that we'll just want to sit at the beach and eat a simple picnic lunch. In the great American style, we'd like to grab a "bucket of chicken," on the way to the beach. Is the Kentucky Fried Chicken east of Charlotte Amalie still in business?
Also, next Sunday, I notice that there are no cruise ships in Charlotte Amalie. How busy will Trunk Bay be on that day?
Hey, thanks to everybody who has indulged my Virgin Islands addiction and patiently answered my questions.

Hi, We are going to St John in October for a week too. Please let us know what are your favorite restaurants and places to snorkel. Have a great trip. We can't wait for our trip to be one week away.
Hello John,
The KFC in Havensight is open, I think that's the one you are refering to.

Maria,
I'll be sure to let you know what I do on St. John. Since I enjoy reading trip reports, I'll return the favor and post my own trip reports when I get home in a couple of weeks.
So watch for my trip reports after the 28th, I'm sure they'll bore you to death, but hey they'll be a great read just before bedtime. (Just don't fall asleep at the computer, it gives you such a krink in the neck.)
This will be my 3rd time to St. John, so although I'm not an expert like Islander and the locals, I have a pretty good tourist point of view. Feel free to ask me any questions. (My hobby has become obsessing over St. John.)
Really, my life is so pitiful. LOL. I measure time in USVI trips. I'm either planing for a trip to the USVI, on a trip in the USVI, or just returned from a trip to the USVI. (This is where everybody chimes in, "get a life!")

We'll be heading to St. Thomas/ St. John soon after you (our 4th? trip back). Ask any local - espec. shop owners, & they can tell which days the biggest cruise ships come in. If Sunday is a day w/o ships, definitely take the ferry from Redhook to Cruz Bay, St. John ($6/person? or $35/ car + occupants). Trunk Bay is beautiful - a great photo shot is along the road heading down to the bay, overlooking it. But don't limit yourself to the tourist hangouts - every other public beach around the island is just as beautiful, but more private & quiet than Trunk Bay - check out Cinnamon Bay & Maho Bay, take the seashore Walk to Leinster Bay. We've done the Reef bay Hike (3 miles downhill - take a cold waterbottle w/you) & found it neat to learn about the flora & fauna & history of St. John. You may fall in love w/ the unspoiled beauty of St. John which contrasts w/ the tourist traffic in charlotte amalie, St. Thomas. A great spot for snorkeling on St. t. however is coki beach & Coral world is a must see (next to Coki B.). For nightlife, we go to The Greenhouse restaurant in Charlotte Amalie - every Wed. night, a local group called 'The Starlights'play from 8 pm (?) until closing. The dance floor is packed b/c they're the best group to dance to in the VI, by far. They've packed the house weekly for years.
Have a safe & memorable trip & don't overdo it in the sun (at least not on your first day).
