Woohoo! This BB is making me drool. Next thursday morning my wife and son head to STJ from St Louis....being landlocked (we dont truly count the Mississippi River as a water source anymore) I am shaking to get down there (although I think I had too much coffee).

Thanks for all the AWESOME advice...Hopefully I can bring back many great pics and many great stories for y'all. I am sure that your feedback is making this family vacation even more laid back!!!

Richard, We're flying out the same morning, only from JFK. I'm sure we'll run into each other on island, and never even know it! Have a wonderful trip.

p.s. Where are you staying?

Rich, We fly into St. Thomas from JFK at 12:06 on American and we're hoping to get the 1:00 ferry out of Red Hook. We rent a villa over Fish Bay. Do you think you could wear a shirt all week that says "I'M RICH FROM THE BOARDS" so I'll know it's you? haha

I have a cousin that moved from CT to the St. Louis burbs (Ellisville, MO) 25 years ago, and everytime we go to the shore she tells me how much she misses having the ocean around her. So, I know that you will especially appreciate those water views. Maho is about the perfect place.

I live in Ballwin, MO about 1 mi from Ellisville, MO. Small world. If your cousin has kids, they probably go to the same elementary school as mine. Indeed we especially appreciate the turquoise water and white sand beaches. I hope to be back to STT/STJ in the Spring again.

I can make it until next year. I can make it until next year.

Making the 1:00 redhook you might beable to do if you aren't checking any luggage If you do have checked luggage there is a 1:00 downtown that would get you into stj at around 1:40 ahead of the 2:00 if you miss the 1:00 I figure at least 30 min for the taxi ride to redhook and remember they will wait to fill the taxi to redhook even if hurry to get to them they aren't leaving till they have six people

Thanks for the advice, Waterguy. The ONLY reason I'm optomistic about making the 1:00 ferry is because we hired a taxi service that will be waiting there for us with a sign. Even then, I realize we're on island time and the 1:00 ferry might be miraculous!

Richard---

I noticed that you said that you're staying at Maho or Concordia. You probably want to be clear on which one, because they're in different parts of the island.

Hello, By Request! The taxi service sounds like a great idea for pick up from STT to Red Hook. Which one did you hire, and how did you decide on that one? Thanks!

Take bug spray for Concordia. Just got back from there and had lots of biting critters in my room. There's no air conditioning so you have to leave all the windows open, and the screens let in the no-see-ums. I also had mosquitoes and fleas.

Dark rum, 151 Rum, orange juice, pineapple juice, Coco Lopez and over ice with dust of nutmeg.

Did I mention Rum?

Do a search for basic recipe. 🙂

Bexter, We're going with Dynamic Tours. My husband actually read about it on this wonderful forum. This will be our 6th trip to St. John and we never knew about the taxi service before. When we get back I'll do a trip report and let you know how it worked out. Anyone we've read that used Dynamic Tours said it was wonderful to have your own driver waiting for you.

Rich, forget the painkillers... drive over to Shipwreck Landing and order a Bushwacker. We'll be there! Look for a freckle faced 38 year old w/ a Red Sox visor, my hubby Dan, and our 13 year old, Abigail (no doubt also wearing a Red Sox hat).
