Hi all!
I'm looking into the Leinster Bay Trail as an activity during my trip in June. I'm drawn to this trail because of the mention of great snorkeling at Waterlemon Cay which this trail leads to. Has anyone been on this trail and snorkeled in this area? Any suggestions regarding this trail? The sites I've researched says the trail is about. 8miles and takes about 30 minutes. Is there parking near?? I'm in a group of 6.

Any suggestions would be great!

There is a parking lot very near the entrance to the trail.

Wear comfortable shoes. The trail is very rocky. It runs along the edge of the water, so there is no real elevation change, but there are a couple areas where you have to walk over boulders and on rocky areas for awhile. There are restrooms at the Parking Lot. Go before you take the trail. There are no restrooms on the trail nor at the beach area.

It's our favorite snorkel spot. We normally pack our lunch, arrive around 10 am. Relax, snorkel, have a little lunch, relax, snorkel, drink a beer, relax, (okay - you get the idea). It's definitely too far to go hike back to the car, drive to a restaurant for lunch, so do bring lunch/snacks/drinks.

If you are not adventurous snorkelers, just go along the right side of the bay. You'll see coral, many fish, and probably some starfish. Snorkel in the middle of the bay to see stingrays. Find the sea grass to find the turtles - that's where they eat.

If you ARE adventurous, then head out to the Cay. It's the big rock out away from shore. Snorkel around it to see more, larger fish, and additional coral and undersea wonders.

Good Luck! Have Fun!

I have seen a small nurse shark at Waterlemon from the beach. Very cool!

If you'd be interested in doing more hiking, the Johnny Horn Trail heads up the hill from the sand beach at Waterlemon. It runs all the way to Coral Bay with a cutoff down to Brown Bay. A lot of diversity, good views, few (if any) people on the trail.

Lex - that's a great point. By the time we carry our chairs, cooler, snorkel gear and misc beach items, the "hike" to Waterlemon isn't all that enjoyable. Relaxing a bit then taking a real leisurely "hike" sounds like a great alternative for thise wanting an adventure. Great idea!
