Well my husband and I are starting to plan our next trip to St. John and need some help with villa choices. We would love to stay on the north shore and have a great view, but just a great view and a decent size pool is what we are looking for. We have sort of narrowed it down to 2 villas but will take suggestions especially since the trip won't be for at least another year or so.

Has anyone stayed at either Le Chateau or Lyons Pride? The pictures look wonderful and the views are spectacular. Also we are looking at Great Escape but not sure we can afford that. Any suggestions or tips or information about those villas would be appriciated. I would love some opinions other than the websites trying to rent them out!

I cannot wait to go back to St. John!!!!! 🙂

We stayed at La Chateau about 6 years ago. The views are amazing.
The best of any place we have stayed on STJ and we have rented about 5 different villas. The north shore views are the best, but it is a little more inconvienent to get to town. La C. is very nice, a little older and less modern than some we have stayed at. It has sort of a European feel to it. The pool is out on the lawn instead of on the deck, like we are used to in STJ. It has a great hot tub that we used every night. Awesome views from the tub.

I looked into Great Escape for our trip last Christmas, but the holiday rate was more than we wanted to spend for the four of us.
But it looks like a perfect choice if money is no problem.

I know nothing about Lyon's Pride. Sorry.

Thank you for the quick reply!

Nice to hear about the views. I saw online that the pool was in the yard instead of on a deck. Did you use it any less b/c of that? Also, I do not see A/C a listed option for the bedrooms - was it really needed? I know it really cools down at night and at a higher altitude like that it may not be needed.

Again, thank you for your reply.

We did not even get in the pool because it we too cold. The hot tub was so wonderful we didn't even give the pool much thought.

I don't remember there being ac, but I don't think you would need it with the breezes. I don't remember being hot at all, and I am very hot natured.

I think we have decided on Luminaria villa - located on Carolina Ridge. Sleeps 3, has a good size pool and a nice view. Anyone been there or know any more details about it?

Thanks!

Luminaria recently added the pool, but I don't know if it's heated. Big wow factor. I stayed at a more modest villa up at 1000' and the pool was COLD. I can live in a pool and I doubt i used it 5 times in 3 weeks. The views are great, but I do like the Northshore better. You might also consider Cinnamon Stones in Cathrineburg. I had it 3 weeks. The road in is not for the faint of heart, a goat track with pull outs so 2 cars can pass, but the pool has a solar heater. YES! They were building a house across the street and I don't know if that affects the view, or is still beng worked on or what. Luminaria is more 'modern'. Cinnamon Stones is more of a traditional style. It rents through Island Getaways Inc. Talk to kathy. There are no bad choices, but I do think LeChateau is a bit high even for the Northshore.

Thanks you everyone, I am loving all of the replies. Holy cow! Cinnamon Stones looks absolutely wonderful. The view is INCREDIBLE. The whole Cathrineburg area is spectacular.

Earlybrass...I'm not sure what you mean by "cold". Usually in the summer my husband and I make our yearly trip to Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore and swim in Lake Michigan...now that is cold!!! Northern Michigan lake water brrrr 🙂 I don't think any water on St. John will be as cold as that. But I will still take that into consideration. I mean, what is the point of a pool if you can't enjoy it at nightime??

I have to quit searching for villas. I found Pebble Cove located on the East End and remember that was a villa I was interested in last year...

We have similar tastes. I, too, like Pebble Cove. terrifc east end location. It doesn't have a pool, but with beach access, that's ok. Once again, you've narrowed it down to some really good choices. Just don't wait till availability to eliminate your first choice! windspree has a couple of east end house that also have great views. If you haven't already, check their website. Villa Ventosa and Memory Daze are my favorites. So many great options, so little time!
