I'm planning a business trip and vacation to USVI later this year. I'm interested in finding out about climate, airports, and accomodations in November to December timeframe.
What Island
James: Look at the navigation bar at the top of this page. TONS of info on weather, airports, accomodations on all the USVI! Happy hunting!
James - I vacation on STJ late nov/early dec when I can. Weather is good, but can still be humid. I've also been on STX and STJ in July, maybe a tiny bit hotter, but that's it.
STJ is far and away the prettiest of the 3 USVI's, though I'm sure the STX folks would disagree. I don't much care for STT as it's too built-up and touristy for my taste. STT and STX both have airports that handle jets. Both can be accessed from the US mainland or via a prop job from San Juan. STJ is accessible by boat/ferry. For those with the budget, I believe you can chopper over from STT to Caneel Bay where there's a landing pad.
STJ's relative isolation makes it very quiet. It attracts the yachtie/boat crowd with its lovey harbors and moorings around the island and easy sailing to the BVI's. The National Park beaches are the biggest draw. STT has more 'party' type options and nightlife, plenty of condos and big resorts with all the ammenities. It is the cruise hub, so there's lots of shopping and it's the busiest of the three islands. STX is away from the other virgins. It is also the largest. The landscape is very different, less lush and green. It has more activity that STJ and much less than STT. It also has Buck Key, the best snorkeling spot in the USVI's.
Weather is basically the same and can be fully checked at www.wunderground.com the national Weatherservice has a station on STT, but not STJ.
Accommodations on STJ are best if you take a villa, and Caneel Bay and the Westin are your resort options. STT has many beautiful resorts and condos. STX resorts, condos and houses.
My choice - a villa on STJ with a pool.
