anybody got a good site for last minute travel deals to STT ?
No, not really. ha ha! =) I guess the style of the USVI/BVIs doesn't really lend itself to the standard resort/all-inclusive/travel deal sort of set-up. I tried CheapCaribbean.com in the past and only remember that the options weren't anything I really wanted to consider. (I think that once you rent a villa you are spoiled for life.)
However, I have just started using Yapta.com. I may have heard about it on this forum...I can't remember. Anyway, it allows you to track specific flights on several different airlines. If the cost goes down, you are notified so you can snag your flights. If you purchase your tickets and the price goes down again, you are at least alerted so you can get vouchers from the airline for the difference. My flights keep going up, so I haven't put this method to the test yet. =(
I know that CaribbeanVilla.com also posts a 'Last Minute Travel' section with decent discounts on villas.
Good luck with your search and have a super trip!

A lot of the rental management companies offer last-minute deals but I haven't had the guts to wait until the week before my trip to book.
Cheap Caribbean runs some deals sometimes.

Hi there tmanvi.
For villas : Some of the rental agents will link you to last minute deals on their sites via an advertised link on their homepage. If not, try calling them and simply asking what they have available in their inventory for last minute and what the discount would be. Last minute is considered within the 60 day window, typically. 30 days or less should increase the discount by about 5%.
For airfare: I don't know of a site for last minute. Prices go up and down. I can't seem to get a handle on a best window for airfare. People tend to say it is better if you purchase earlier, but i have twice seen my STT airfare drop dramatically 2 weeks before departure. I am one of those people who watches the airfare, even after i make the purchase. I am looking for patterns in the pricing...but cannot find any.
Tip on airfare: when buying more than one ticket, shop the price for ONE ticket at a time. Airlines price their seats at various fares. An airline might have 10 seats at $600, but one seat at $300. If you are looking for 2 seats in one search, they will quote you $600 each (the search function will usually not tell you that they can do one at $300 and the other at $600). However, IF you ask for only ONE seat, you'll be given the $300 price...and then you can shop to the second seat and will get the $600 price. This will save you $300 on this trip. Same applies to larger groups. Always shop 1 seat at a time.
Hotels: their direct sites will sometimes drop the price as you get closer.
Sail charters : definitely try www.latesail.com for deep charter discounts.
Also, I have never used this site, but have come across it and it might be worth checking out: http://www.lastminutetravel.com/PageDefault.aspx
Have you signed up for TravelZoo? They often have good last minute specials.
Also, sign up for Hotwire, search for what you want (like rental cars) and sign up for the email subscription. When the price drops, they'll email you and tell you how much. Today, I was emaield that a luxury rental car i wanted for a trip just dropped from $80/day to $40/day. I just hot the link and it takes me to the screen with my car and my profile to reserve. Couldn't be easier. Hotwire is good for last minute.
Cruises: Royal Caribbean has some excellent last minute stuff going right now. Last minute repositioning cruises offer the best deals.
Good luck - form one last minute traveler to another! 🙂
Tmanvi,
According to the St Croix Source online newspaper dated Aug 30. 2007, The Virgin Islands Department of Tourism will start paying vacationers that stay at participating Hotels & Resorts $250.00 credit to fly during the fall months. Just Google The Virgin Islands Department of Tourism for details.
