I'm going to St. Thomas next weekend for 5 days to celebrate my anniversary. How's the weather right now? I'm thinking of taking a day trip to St. Johns. What can I cram in in one day? Any recommendations for dining? casual and fancy for both st. johns and st. thomas? what are some sites that's a MUST SEE? I'll be staying at Wyndham Sugar bay. Is it far from everything? Do I need a car rental?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

THANKS!!!

I would also be interested in an reply. We will be at the Wyndham in 10 days.

We booked Island tours of St. John and St. Thomas from the Wyndham's tour desk. Also booked Spa services at the Wyndham. Going to Coral World and Coki Beach for the day. Booked the Sea Trek at Coral World. Also will be doing the New Horizons II to BVI.

We purchased the AI plan at the Wyndham, so will be dining in most days/nights. However, we do plan on going to Paradise Point and Duffy's Love Shack.

We are not renting a car. We never do on Caribbean vacations. I've added up what the cost of a taxi would be to places we plan on visiting vs. posts regarding rental car prices and there about the same. The Wyndham is 3 miles from Red Hook. With the Island tours we purchased thats all we need to see of St. John and CA. We'll pay the $40 for a one time trip to Paradise Point.

Please post a review when you return. However, we may not see it before we leave. Have a great trip!

Hello Betty,

The weather... it rained a bit this morning and now its sunny and hot.

A day trip to St. John. You could rent a car and drive all around, pick a couple beaches to stop at. You could do a taxi tour, beach stop, some shopping in Cruz Bay, dinner. You could rent a dinghy in Cruz Bay, take a picnic lunch and beach hop by dinghy for the day. And how about hiking - maybe hike the Lind Point trail right from Cruz Bay to Caneel Bay, stop at Honeymoon for a bit, have lunch at Caneel Bay and then take a taxi for an island tour. One of those would be a good day.

You could cram in quite a bit if you take an early passenger ferry over, bring a change of cloths, after beach/sight seeing during the day - rinse off at Trunk Bay or Cinnamon Bay (they have showers, changing stalls) and then you can spend the afternoon strolling in Cruz Bay, a little shopping and then have dinner in Cruz Bay, take a late ferry back to STT.

Wyndham is close to East End stuff (Red Hook, Ferry, Coral World, Coki Beach, Sapphire, Secret Harbor... well close enough). Renting a car is a good idea if you want to do lots of things. If you are sticking around the resort more often then being out and about then just take a taxi when you have plans to go out.

Ok, restaurants on St. Thomas: Banana Tree Grill, Fagiolis, Havana Blue, Herves, Room with a View, Criag and Sallys - nice dinner options; just a few of many. For some local dishes while shopping or sight seeing downtown Charlotte Amalie you might try Gladys, Cuzzins or Lillians. Cafe Amici downtown is good too for lunch also. Some good casual eating choices - Hook,Line and Sinker, Sibs on the Mountain, Northdrop, Fungis. Live music - go to the Sunset Party on Wednesday night or Happy Hour on Mon & Tues at Paradise Point. The Caribbean show at Bolongo is worth going to. And Iggies at Bolongo is good for a casual meal. To catch a live local band on the beach go to Sapphire on Sunday afternoon.
