Does anyone have any reviews or information on the Kiwi Villa that is located in Mahogany Run? We are considering renting it and wanted to hear what people think about it. Any information on that area of STT would be helpful.

Thanks.

Carl

Hi Carl-
I have never stayed there, nor have I seen it. Mahogany Run is in a residential area. The area surrounding the golf complex really isn't much. Not bad at all, just not very pretty....kind of arid looking to me. There are lots of really nice homes in the area and it is generally known to be a very safe community....a place of wealth.

The golf course and complex are large, so I don't think you would see any of what is outside the gate from the home, depending on where it sits. The gate/exit/entrance is down low....so there is no view when you exit...and there are hills on I think 3 sides....so you are sort of down in a valley when you exit...the homes and condos on the course sit way up high.

You are really close to Magen's Bay (5 min drive...tops). There's a little market very close by (a really small one, but they stock it well) and a few good restaurants are right around and lots of other good restaurants are close by - plus you are close to Charlotte Amalie because you just need to go up and over the mountain and CA is on the other side. Indigo is at Magen's Point and is very good. Old Stone Farmhouse is right there, and is one of the most upscale restaurants in the island, if not THE most upscale.

You'll be well situated to follow the road from the course's gate to the road that takes you to Red Hook (and you'll be traveling on the North side of the island, away from the cruise ship traffic and Charlotte Amalie bustle). You can travel from this home to Red Hook and the East End without ever crossing over to the South Side, which is a big plus, IMO.

For me, because I like to make my way around the island sampling various beaches, restaurants, etc, I like this area best. I usually stay out on Peterborg, which is just around the corner.

Thanks for your reply. Where do you normally stay in Peterborg? We were thinking of renting a villa there too.

Carl,
I've spoken to the property manager about the Kiwi villa and she stated that the villa is very nice, well laid out home on the northside of the island over the hill from the golf course. She said that the home is private, has fantastic views over Hans Lolick and is new to villa rentals starting last December because the owners had purchased the house in August. I know I have found their website to be very helpful (kiwivilla.com) as they now show videos from the property. I believe we are going to reserve the villa late this summer.

Carl-

No particular place - they're all nice (banana, allure, crosswinds, pallina)...I have mostly prefer the villas that are up higher and that give me a view of both the bay and the sea (south and north sides of the peninsula - at once).

There are some that allow direct beach access down onto the south side's sand pockets, but I haven't yet had the pleasure.

I do, however, walk down to Platform beach, which is a little farther than midway out on the south side of the peninsula. Here is one of my shots of it.

There are multiple small beaches along that side. You'll probably have it to yourself. If you walk down and someone is on the beach, just walk in the shallow water to the next private pocket....about 15 feet )they are separated by boulders int he sand - so you can see each other in the water, but not on the sand)....The home in the picture is Sand Dollar, which has its own private beach

There really isn't a bad spot out there. Which ones are you considering?
