I am staying on st johns in may and am curious about kite surfing conditions during this time. I have been told to try Tortola as well. What are the local rules on where i can launch and kite? What size kites should i bring if it is good at this time of year?

Thanks for the guidance!

It's more popular in the BVI. You'll have to Google for more info. Since so much of STJ is national park, it may not be available on STJ.

My understanding is that, as ms411 says, the majority of beaches on St John (no "s") fall under the jurisdiction of the National Park Service which won't allow you to start on the beach.

We were at Smith Bay (Linqvist Beach on STT) and there were kite surfers all over the place. They were really moving.

You may want to consider going there.
