My family of four, including 9 and 6 year old sons, wants to stay on either St. Thomas or St. John during the last week in January. Can anyone suggest a place that would be good for kids (I believe the Westin St John has a kids club). A decent beach for snorkeling at the hotel/resort would be a plus. Thanks!!!
The only hotels that are on a decent snorkeling beach are Caneel (STJ), Sapphire (STT) and Secret Harbour (STT).
Sapphire has closed down most of their amenities - so forget that.
That leaves you with Caneel and Secret Harbour - your wallet will probably decide - and a choice between STT and STJ.
IMO, travel to the nearby beautiful beaches and pick a hotel for other things....not the beach. That's open your options immensely.
Years ago we did the Westin with children about the same age. Both were on year long swim teams..so they had enough of pools. They loved hopping in the jeep & going to a new beach each day to snorkel. The jeep ride alone in STJ is like an amusement ride. That is what STJ is all about. Our trip was a freebie from Hubbie's work so no complaints. If I was to do it with my own money, I would go along with Blu & rent a villa and have a jeep & go explore. At the end of the day come back & relax by your villa pool. If that doesn't sound like a plan for your kids maybe another island should be considered.
Yes, I agree with cocosmom that the Westin is the most kid-friendly on STJ. On STT, for that age, the Wyndham Sugar Bay. Both have beaches that you'd want to skip - but so many others to explore on both islands.
