Islander and friends,

Kerry and Paula post quite frequently on this board. They are fans of St Croix. Just heard from them and they are displaced due to hurricane Rita. They live in Texas. and are now in limbo in north Texas. May not see their home(five miles from Port Arthur) for another four weeks (They evacuated as the eye hit about 5 miles from their home) Had long email from Paula and things aren't too good right now but Kerry and Paula seem to have a gift for letting things flow over their shoulders. They were planning to go to St Croix again in Dec but now they're just worried about getting back to their house, pump out water, bury the downed trees, clean their rotted food out of their freezer, etc.

So far they have asked for nothing but prayers and if you're in their area....bring a chainsaw.

Thanks Sandcrab for that update. Hoping for the best for them and others in that area.

We're back in our house! No electricty or drinkable water, but at least we had a home to come back to unlike many of our close neighbors. One of our 90 year old pecan trees fell across our next door neighbors roof tearing a hole in it and another was blown comletely backward missing our home. The house right behind us has a huge old oak in the middle of it! Devastation everywhere. We were very lucky to be able to come home and camp out in our house... one of the few in the neighborhood that's ok.

I always watch and worry during the hurricane season--- praying another Hugo doesn't hit the beautiful Virgin Islands. We really appreciate the email we received from the friends we've made on this message board hoping we were ok! Sandcrab was generous enough to even offer us financial assistance and Laura offered a place to stay. Thankfully we didn't need to accept these offers! But just knowing there are people who truly care was a huge morale booster!

Thanks again to the ones who were thinking of us.

Paula and Kerry,

I've lurked on this message board for a while, but never posted. I just had to come out to say that we've been through hurricane evacuations before and our thoughts and prayers are with you. I'm glad that you've received emails and I hope that you know others on this message board are wishing you well too.

You seem like very nice people who love these islands as much as we do. God Bless you both.

Paula and Kerry: Anyone who has ever lived through a devastating hurricane will empathize with you. Life is more important than stuff. I am glad you are all right.
