Okay, I'll say in advance that I'm embarrased to post this but what the heck, i'm among friends!!!

I'm a Kenny Chesney fan and saw him in concert recently and while I was looking at some recent pictures that were posted on this sight the song about the "Old Blue Chair" of his came on my ITunes and so I'm wondering... have any of you ever seen him while vacationing there or know any interesting tid bits of his living there? Just random thinking on my part, but I do love how he describes the feeling of being on St. John in that song and mentions Cinnamon Bay and it added so much to looking at the pictures! I think at least one of his albums was written in great part while he was there. Anyone know anything that will fuel my interest?

I heard Kenny was hanging out with Willie Nelson at Woody's yesterday. If you're looking for Kenny Chesney while you're on St. John, that'd be the place to find him.

Told you he would be here this month! He's down with about a hundred people. Summer concert wrap party. Played at Beach Bar last night!

I would love to see you in concert again next year Kenny Chesney. I live in Maryland and I would like to try very hard to get front row seat tickets so I can see you better. I would love to give you a hug away Kenny. I love you Kenny Chesney.

Wow I never thought my caveat to Kathleen B would cause a thread that takes us to music discussion.

As everyone has figured out I am old....

The Jimmy Buffett - Kenny C discussion fascinates me! My knowledge of Kenny C is limited, and what I know l learned through my son as noted above. However in my early years I was in the Coast Guard and a moonlighted as bartender in Mobile AL.

The owner of the bar went to high school with JB, and my roommate dated his sister or cousin I forget... Jimmy would stop by when in town and between 1974 and 1976 I probably saw him 15 times.

And I loved his lyrics... "I do not write my music for money - I write them for me" (A1A I think)

In 1986 I saw Jimmy again. My disdain grew to a level that I cannot describe on this board...
People were running around with sharks on their heads or dressed up as cheeseburgers. And Fingers' harmonica sounded as it came from a computer generated device somewhere behind stage.

A1A - Living and Dying in 3/4 Time, Pink Crustriacian (sp) White Sport Coat are still on the shelf. All other Buffet needs to be used for Skeet Shooting.

So now what about Kenny C....
There are a lot of Buffett riffs on cannot argue, and maybe a twisted lyric or two
A couple songs are nothing but John Cougar (my age thing) Mellencamp intros
He has a good voice (hate the TN accent) - Great back up band, Great Preformer, and a very frustrated Buffett want-a-be or maybe not - but burned out Buffett and flashy Kenny C rate about equal.

I still listen to Buffett (early) - I listen to Kenny (when my wife cues it up)
But if I want to go to the islands... Bob M., Taj Mahal, Bankie Banx, and host of others

So next time you are sitting in Cheese Burger in Paradise eating a medicore burger ... Think about me - that old fart that thinks both Kenny C and Jimmy B are medicore musicians that sold out for money, but damn their lyrics are catchy.

So give me another one of those water downed, cheap mix margaritas in the Big Glass with a rubber shark and no tequilla like they serve at Duffy's Love Shack - And anything will sound good.

LOL, had to laugh at your last statement about Duffy's. I just love that place. We had such a great time there, even with people who's name we didn't know.

Welllllllllllllllll, I was just wondering about any interesting tidbits about Kenny when I started this thread but it has taken on a life of it's own, haha, and I've been enjoying it while waiting for Blu's trip reports to materialize! Have to say, just for the permanent message board record, that I do think KC is talented and his greatest hits CD proved that even before his love of the islands began to show up in his music. I think he used to sing typical country music and as he became more celebrated and secure he introduced more of himself into his albums and hence, the music reflecting his feelings about time spent on STJ. For me, a country music enthusiast, he is the perfect tie between my love of STJ and my enjoyment of country music. I can definitely do a little Bob Marley but not every day the way I can enjoy Kenny in the background of my life. I was just looking at a pic of my husband sitting at the bar at Duffy's when I read TomB's post about their margaritas so I had to get in on this thread again!!

I would rather see Alan Jackson or Toby Keith better still Jimmy Buffett. At least Toby Keith has been over to Iraq to perform for the troops. I doubt that Alan Jackson, Jimmy Buffett has but I know Kenny hasn't.

Personally I got enough of ol' Kenny Cheesie the last time I passed thru Crux Bay to last me a lifetime. Every bar and gift shop seemed to have his dribble playing. Me, I run a John Deere tractor, love country music, but have grown to hate what I call bubbagum music that is passed off as being country music.

Hey JT......sounds like you might be John Deere Green....but I still bet She Thinks Your Tractor's sexy!! Maybe if you just paid a visit to the Keg in the Closet you'd like KC's music better. Nah, It'll probaly just Take You Back to that Old Blue Rocking Chair or remind you of Summertime.

Let's just head over to Ivan's where there's No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems..........LOL!!

Couldn't have agreed with you more JT. Frankly I don't see where he is country or what, like a few of his songs but he is not island music until he went to St John to get over a former girl friend ( not the one he married) but on the Grand Caymans, as he put it it doesn't hold the memories it once held so how long will St John be his interest? LOL

I've been to the virgin islands many times and being the Kenny fan that I am....I am always looking for him,not to stalk him but to be able to say I saw him there! he does hang out at Woody's...you can even leave mail for him there! We did! the other places you are likely to see him are in the bvi's and can only get to these places by boat. Foxy's is one and sydney's peace and love bar (where part of living in fast forward was filmed) on Yost Van dyke. I know he plans a trip at the end of his tour and usually takes his band also. I can see why he loves it there,it has become my family's favorite place to vacation and unwind. If you ever get the chance to charter a boat and island hop for a few days....you'll never forget it!

And why do you think he rarely comes here any more? I rather doubt that he's been here since that rather bizzare wedding/not a year or so ago.

People in the public eye go to places outside the "norm" in an effort to find a haven away from the masses. Once their presence becomes known, both the paparazzi and the local visitors descend upon them, the latter first followed by the former.

The locals don't have a problem and I'm talking about bahn-heres and longtime local residents.

Princess Margaret of England found a haven on Mustique but the privacy she found there for several years was eventually usurped and her dream of simply getting away turned to dust.

Enough!

PS: I've no interest whatsoever in Kenny Chesney. Even given the amount of time afforded to him on this forum (do a search for his name) I personally find nothing much attractive about him. He's a mediocre vocalist with limited range, and he has a problem. He's height-challenged for sure.

STT resident,
Pretty harsh! Kenny has won the Country Entertainer of the year for the past 3 years. I would say many feel he is better than mediocre. LOL Have been to about a dozen of his concerts in the past 4 years & they have all been a blast. Maybe you should be a little kinder to someone who owns property in the USVI and sings/speaks only praises of the islands. He has a broad fan base that he is sharing his love of the USVI with at every concert. Free advertising can't be bad for the tourist business!
