We are flying into St Thomas on April 21st 2012 @ 2:25pm and need to get to Jost Van Dyke. Looking to see if anyone knows of a cheap way to get there or share a ride with someone. Ferries don't run that late from what I have researched, is this correct? Please give me any info or names and numbers of any suggestions. Thanks!

The ferry schedule is l,inked top right this page under "Quick Links" and you're correct that this won't work for you. However, there ARE ferries to Tortola from Charlotte Amalie which would work and you could check the BVI ferry schedule to see if there's a Tortola-JVD ferry hook up to continue on that evening.

If that fails and unless you can find someone to share the cost of a water taxi (Dolphin and Dohm's are the only two here) your best bet might be to stay overnight on St Thomas, Check prices at Best Western Emerald Beach Resort, Windward Passage Hotel and Crystal Palace. Good luck.

take the ferry from CA to Tortola and then get a ferry from Tortola over to Jost. Check out this website:

We are in the same fix Feb. 11,2012. No time to be sure you can make the ferry connections. Dolphin offers a private water taxi for abt $350, so if you can get a group together to share the cost it's the fastest and most flexible. They say you should buy groceries at the dock in Red Hook, STT, or Tortola, so the water taxi gives a little time. Dolphin also offers a group they put together and charge $240 per couple. It leaves Red Hook at 3:45 (cutting it close) and at about 5:45. You drop off people and clear customs at West End, Tortola, then on to Jost.

The other part is finding a shared van taxi from the airpport, a major cost-cutter over private cab. The ride to Red Hook is supposed to be 30-45 minutes..

I have posts on several forums for shared water taxi, but no takers yet. We will probably do the shared Dolphin trip and order provisions to pick up at Red Hook or West End.

That's all I know so far. Let me know if you have any luck.

You can skip the grocery shopping on STT and do a purchase thru Bobby's Marketplace on Tortolla. They'll deliver the provisions you require on the island via the ferry. Go to their website, download the PDF file of items, make a grocery list and they'll deliver it JVD via ferry. It's awesome. We do it every year and it's always a great experience. Will save you time!

Have to agree. I've often checked the prices at Bobby's in comparison to our best prices on STT and they're pretty equable overall while the time savings are a clincher.
