My wife and I just returned home from a week in St. Croix. What can I say, but... WOW!!!
We stayed at the Carambola on the north shore and rented a car for our travel. Driving around the island is a must for seeing the island and getting a real feel for the place. We could have stayed another week (or two) and still would not have seen all there is to see. We had a great time and already miss the place.
The food was great, (not a bad meal the entire trip) and the people very helpful and friendly. The sights were breathtaking and the activities memorable. We went scuba diving at Cane Bay (1st time... yikes) and kayaking at night at Salt River, horseback riding with Paul and Jill, stopped in and saw Norma and had a "MammaWaana", took Big Beard's Renegade out to Buck Island for the snorkeling and the beach BBQ. Other than that, driving around exploring the island and finding a nice relaxing place for dinner or just kicking back at the Carambola and enjoying the beach and spectacular views. Looking forward to my 50th birthday which we decided to spend on STX... (Hey... What's good for the Gander is good for the Goose!)
Thanks to everyone here who gave advice and information our trip and my wife's 50th birthday was a huge success!
The ONLY regret we had was using American Airlines but not to worry, that will never happen again.
Glad you had a great time. We're heading out Thursday for 3 1/2 weeks at Hotel on the Cay. Our 4th trip to the Cay, fifth to St Croix. I'm hungry for a great burger which are available just about everywhere. Especially like the burgers and cheap drinks at Pleasant's in downtown Christiansted. I don't know how they can take a burger that's come over on a ship from who knows where and make them taste sooooo good!
So glad you had a great time. St. Croix is sooo wonderful. I can't wait to return. Spent a month there last year during the holidays and have been hooked since then.
Indydon, I have a question about your travel problems to STX. What happened with American Airlines?? My husband and I will be going to STX in June and we are flying American all the way both ways.

Gotta ask - did you go through Miami of San Juan?
The only problem I ever have flying is when we go through Miami - airline does not matter
We are flying with American from Phila. through San Juan. Last year we ran into problems returning from Antigua. Our plane was at the gate but they had no pilots to fly. We were delayed for 4 hours. It was a very long day. I could have gone with US Airways but they don't have a great track record either. I was delayed returning from Sweden over 3 hours.
I am curious as to what issues you encountered with American.
