Hi Everyone!

Just got back from our St. John Trip- June 5-16 yesterday at 2:30am! We stayed at Maho Bay Camps and we loved it! I wanted to post a few pics before I tackle my trip report! We lasted two days 'walking' and broke down and got a rental car..so..to all those who said, "get a rental cal"...thank you.. 🙂 Our weather was beautiful every day..90s. It took us a little bit to get used to the heat! Hardest part of our trip was finding a good meal. I was so excited to go to Chateau Bordeaux only to be so disappointed 🙁 But thankfully we had Uncle Joe's Barbecue and Deli Grotto..next time I will bring food! But enough for now, I'll save it for the trip report! Thanks everyone for your great tips!

Familiar view? 🙂

Hiding? 🙂

We loved our trip! Went to so many beaches..snorkeled so much! Loved Denis Bay (maybe our favorite)..each beach has something to offer depending on the day and what you're looking for! All so nice! Can't wait to go back! 🙂

Looks like you got one of the best tents with a great view. Good for you. I've been to the Chateau a couple of times and it was ok. The view is the best. We just returned early June from St.John. We really enjoyed Shipwreck, Skinny Legs, Waterfront Bistro, and Miss Lucy's for our meals. We also ate at Maho one night, and our food was really good. Hope you have better luck next time. We usually have a difficult time getting ourselves to stay at the house and cook since we usually really enjoy our meals out.

So glad that you had a great time!!! There are a lot of fantastic restaurants on St. John, so sorry you didn't "find" them this trip, but there is always next time 😀

Chateau Bordeaux has changed hands several times over the years. The current manager has been there for about a year now. I haven't heard too many positive things about them sadly. It is an amazing location and would love to see it do well again. There are two other forums that are very active and they both have a lot of great information about the restaurants on St. John. TripAdvisor and Virgin Island On Line. The restaurant scene is ever changing on St. John... places close, places open, new management, different chefs, etc. It's always good to get current reviews on places right before you visit.

Can't wait for your trip report!!

Hurry up with that trip report already!!! All kidding aside, we are a "beach & snorkeling" family that will be taking our first trip in the VI next month. We would love to hear your experience and recommendations regarding to beaches and snorkeling spots.
What kind of underwater camera did you use? The fishes and corral pics are very clear.

Rose- Yes! Our tent was great! Didn't really feel like 'camping'. We loved the view! I'm sure the restaurants are great..I just think between not being used to the heat, meal choices, preferences..we just didn't find or maybe pick the right things. I had been to Miss Lucy's many times on my last trip about three years ago but didn't find it quite the same this time. Tourist trap had a great lobster roll..and I must admit having Lobster Rolls frequently in Maine..I was a bit skeptical, but it was great! As for Chateau Bordeaux..that was bad on many levels..I do believe that it probably was once great. The view however IS great!

stjohnjulie- Thank you! Our trip was great! So sad it is over 🙁 I found the St. John Sun Times a great resource for restaurant choices. Again..I think it was 'us' and not the restaurants. On previous trips I enjoyed Shela's Pot, Uncle Joe's Barbecue is always great..I really love the local food..a few places I wanted to try were closed due to low season..maybe next time! 🙂

anh7tam- first part of trip report is up! 🙂 Caution- It may be a little long/boring! I would definitely recommend snorkeling from Big Maho to Little Maho. Great reef! Saw an octopus, variety of fish, etc. Great snorkel! Haulover (via short path) I think it was the north side..(the other side is just along side of the road) is another GREAT snorkel, really amazing! How old are the kids that are snorkeling? I am not a strong swimmer, I would say average and I found Waterlemon not difficult at all...just walk to the furthest point, left at end of path where it forks (runs closest to the shore) short swim and go counterclockwise. We saw a spotted eagle ray! Hawksnest is great too, but very shallow..so body control is a must as to not touch/damage coral. Leinster Bay on the way to Waterlemon is another great spot! One snorkel that we didn't do but wished we had was Mary's Creek. Very shallow again but is said to be one of the best! Hope this helps! Feel free to ask more questions! The camera is listed in my trip report. Pics really depend on how much the sun in shining on the water, depth, and chosing the underwater setting prior helps, lol. Our camera did stop working on day 6. We are not sure what happened. We don't remember doing anything 'wrong' but who knows! 🙂
